I'm constantly tripping over this question of what design and advertising have in common. And what separates them. And why is the former arises so many by-questions, while the latter is comprehensible to everyone.

My take on that in short: yes, a designer (a consultant) should pay attention to this, because solving client's problems means constantly sharing a part of your mind with them. Occupying yourself with the problems of others is almost an intimate issue, isn't it?

Hoping for a quick advice.

I've calibrated my monitor colors with Displays > Color > Calibrate (Advanced). That was in 2010.

Now almost a year later I discover, that my monitor doesn't show quite a few shades (they are just not visible with the eye anymore) – the other iMac showing them perfectly well (thus revealing some retouching errors). I don't see these errors (very light shades of grey) on my monitor.

1. Tried to calibrate anew. Fail.
2. Tried every available color profile. Fail.
3. Copied the color profile from the other monitor, renamed and saved to HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Di... . Applied. Fail.
4. + Brightness - . Fail.

These half-tone, half-shades aren't visible with any option I find. Any less obvious options to fine tune the monitor color? Please? I need it very sensitive.

How many and which tools and equipment do you actually possess and use? The "default" equipment like your Mac/PC, a pencil, a pen, a ruler doesn't count.

Do you own a paper trimmer? A color laser printer? A binding machine? Do you own a Canon 5D or maybe a full-blown photo studio? A silkscreen machine? A room for *bricolage* with wood, plastic or metal? An offset press?...

This is just a "state of things" question. No subtext.

To start: except for a couple of computers, we have an A4 color laser printer - but that is it.
The next thing we probably buy will be a trimmer (though for now we are fine with using one at the copy shop). I'd be also happy to have an ih-house photo studio and a separate room for some tinkering with materials (sometime later, I guess).

How do I share a folder on a mac mini server, so that when mounted the files have a path like:
/Volumes/Shared_Folder/Sub_Folde...
?

Until now sharing a folder on one of the HDDs on a MM gives me the following path:
/Volumes/Hdd_Name/Shared_Folder...

I am not starting a flame thread here. NO.
But I am pretty much pissed, that it *looks* like I have to put my Win 7 Pro box in the basement and switch wholly to Mac servers and SL Server OS just because my workstation setup is based on iMacs.
True?
Or should I blame my hands for not being able to setup a stable file server under Win 7 Pro for simultaneous use by 2 (or more) Macs?

Aimed effect:

I am struggling, like a noob here. I have four stripes (from back to front, CMYK):

0-0-100-0
0-100-100-0
15-100-90-10
0-50-100-0

they lay atop each other, all four of them crossing at some point and some crossing with each other at other points. I want them to retain their main color and blend just at crossing points. What I got until now was either lost of main color or no visible effect at all. Wtf?
