Can anyone tell me if files worked on or created in Office 2008 for Mac are compatible with Windows based Office 2003?

Please let me know ASAP if you know the answer. Mainly I need to know if I create a new Word file in 08 for Mac, will it open and work in Windows 2003 Word.

I was talking to someone at work yesterday about what our pets do at home all day and how I think it'd be cool to have a time-lapse of my cat walking around and doing whatever she does. Exciting life, I know.

If I were to set something up to have a camera in my apartment and stream this to a web page, how would I do this? Are there services for this? Would it be free? Anyone done anything like this before?

Any of you guys do band posters as freelance work? I mostly do them for my band only, but got a request to do one for a band in California who saw my portfolio and posters.

For an unsigned band, would it be customary to give them a price, or let them offer whatever they can pay? I'm probably not too into their music based on their influences, but thought of a great concept, and, frankly, the exposure would be nice.

MBP Battery Problem Nov 2, 08, 1:06 p.m.

Lately I've been having a problem with my MBP when using it without it being plugged in. I'll be right in the middle of working, and it will just shut off and the screen will go black. But, when I plug it back in, it picks up where it left off - no lost work or shutdown programs.

I recharged it entirely today, and put on the percentage view next to the battery display in the top bar.

It shut off again, with 70% of the battery life left. This time it fully restarted when I plugged it back in.

Battery Health is showing to be 21% right now. Never seen it that low before, it's usually around the mid 90s.

Any ideas? This is an MBP that is the version previous to the refresh earlier this year.

I'm going to be at a party tonight with quite a few people I don't know. I always like to have a good, highly offensive joke or two in the chamber, ready to fire when the moment calls for it.

Just the same I love a good icebreaker question. Tonight, I think I'm going with "Do you believe in the Devil?" because nobody ever asks that. People instead ask (if the conversation goes there) "do you believe in God? are you a Christian?"

Hello friends - wanted to share the news that my girlfriend and I got engaged last Sunday here in Miami! We have been on vacation all week and just got back into Miami this morning after a really fun 5 day cruise to Turks and Caicos, Half Moon Cay Bahamas and Nassau.

I proposed on the beach on Sunday night after walking us around for half am hour trying to find a nice quiet place as the moon came out. She was completely surprised and it was a moment that I am still smiling about.

I/we have to thank Calles for the rest of the night. Though he didn't make it out, we went to the bar where we met him last year in south beach, called Purdy Lounge. We totally love this place! Great dj, danced like crazy, had a perfectly fun night.

Finally told my parents this morning after getting back into town, all very excited and asking too many questions already... They totally love my girlfriend and have been waiting for this as much as I have!

We are here in Miami until Monday and back home and back to work on Tuesday. I'll have pics up later this week!

Knowledge U Want Oct 4, 08, 9:14 p.m.

Curious to know what set of knowledge and/or ability you would like to learn that you're either lacking completely or are somewhat of a novice at.

Me, for example, when I watch Iron Chef, I get this huge desire to know even just a fraction if the average know how that cooks like that have, so I could almost effortlessy throw ingredients together and make something good.

I'd also like to learn how to screenprint.

What's on your list? No "anal" or "taking girls home without using roofies" or "getting away with murder."

Going on a Cruise Oct 3, 08, 11:58 a.m.

So my girlfriend and I are leaving from Miami on a cruise for 5 days Monday. Besides making sure to stick QBN stickers all over the place, what are some other things I should definitely look forward t0? Any secret compartments or passageways I should try and sneak into?

Never been on a cruise before. We're going to Turks & Caicos, an island in the Bahamas and Nasau. That is if we survive partyin' with Calles this weekend in Miami.

Any tips and such?

I'm thinking about picking up an additional external hard drive to use as a backup to both my MBP and an existing external hard drive. It is a WD MyBook 320 GB drive, and I'd buy another similar one that will also use FireWire 800.

My question is, can you chain these together - a new one for backups to the existing one - and it will be recognized and properly backup data?

Anyone have any albums or songs that captured a time in your life perfectly, and/or that you've not listened to in quite a while, and when you do, everything that's attached to comes back into your mind as if it all just happened yesterday?

I've not listened to Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head in a long time, but just put it on. Made me remember a ton from when that album came out, August 26, 2002. I'd just gotten over a summer of waiting for a girlfriend to get back from studying abroad in Spain only to have her come back and break up with me, then onto chasing another girl I liked who was in college and too confused to figure out if she really wanted a boyfriend or not, and going to see Coldplay with her that September or October. I had only recently really felt like I'd gotten my feet on the ground living in Chicago, having a full time job ($28K a year was thrilling!).

What's your story about one?

Does anyone else have complete disdain for college youth, and specifically grungy art school students when you see them in public just openly espousing on some nonsensical point of view like it's the biggest, most perfectly thought out thing they will ever say, and they do it with so much gusto to be just-ever-so-accurate in making anyone within ear shot think they are some kind of mad genius? But you know that under that facade it's all just crap for the sake of saying anything at all?

I was on the subway on my way home today and some kid, probably 19 or 20, starts telling the girl he's with (and i hear this as the train is slowing down to a station):

"Graphic Design is Satan. Aaannnddd, Adversing is Satan."

and then it got a little louder but I can tell he's completely trying to be the most brief but intellectual guy in the world, just in the way he's gesturing and carrying on.

I guess it's no different really from some law school students that are so full of shit and themselves. I just really wanted to strike up a conversation with this kid and really get some reasons why he said that, some kind of conviction he'd pound his chest for, rather than the impression that he was saying whatever would impress this chick that looked like a Cobra Snake photo tossed into the garbage.

Anyhow, is this what we do as we grow up and enter our 30s? Is this when we become old, adults, when we just shake our heads and say "Kids today?" Because we all did the same thing - I can step back and realize that of course. :)

Low Light & DSLR Sep 18, 08, 8:54 a.m.

I'm possibly going to buy a new camera before I go on vacation in a few weeks, and I'm thinking about a Nikon D60. Great reviews, within my price range, etc.

I've used my stepdad's D80 and was really impressed. I've been using a Panasonic Lumix 6MP for a couple years now, point and shoot but with a 10x optical zoom and Leica lense. It's really a great, very reliable smaller camera to have with me all the time and I've gotten some great photos with it.

But I'm wanting to upgrade for the obvious reasons, and one thing I want to be able to do is shoot low light photos, bands, outdoor shots, long exposures, etc. with much better quality than I can with my current cameras.

Any tips, suggestions, trial and error stories, methods, etc. any of you use with this camera or similiar DSLR's to get really good, rich photos in low light? Even suggestions on edits in Photoshop are fine.

Curious, what are some of the things you wish your significant other would do, but that they'd do without you telling them? Something that would make you proud, or turn you on, or show effort, or be mature, those kinds of things - but just on their own?

Because if YOU told them to or hinted, it kind of kills the surprise and such, know what I mean?

And since I know what the very first response will be "saying 'let's try anal,' " start with something else.

I'm trying to flag and batch process some photos in Photoshop. I have Bridge, but where is the viewer that CS1 had where you could sort by flagged and unflagged images.

Can you do this with Bridge?

Here's a good one for you:

I just reviewed my first iphone 3g bill summary just to see what the charges were even though the bill isn't due until September 25th.

While I'm sure I read this on the web that the iphone monthly cost includes a $30 data plan or whatever you want to call it, the employee that sold me the phone and got me signed up in the Chicago Apple store NEVER ONCE EXPLAINED THAT. In fact, I feel 99.9% sure that the product documentation on the tables at the store do not include that.

The employee flat out told me that the $39.99 rate plan included unlimited Internet usage. I would swear on a bible to it. Never once mentioned the $30 added to the $39.99 for Internet usage.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've been on the phone with AT&T for over 30 minutes trying to figure out why my first bill was so high, and they mentioned that - news to me.

I am completely planning to go to the Apple store after work to look at the documentation signs on the iphone tables there that the use for rate and service plans. I can't believe they hid this fact from me or anyone else.
