YOUR Favorite Photo Jan 25, 12, 11:17 a.m.
I know we have the Show Your Recent Pics thread, but I thought this would be fun.
If there's ONE photo you've taken that you really love and totally nailed a style/goal/mood/moment, post it here. JUST ONE.
Cold//Snow Photo Gear? Jan 22, 12, 9:32 p.m.
Any of you photographers have anything in particular you always use or depend on when doing extensive photography in the snow or cold weather? I'm going on an awesome road trip up north to Michigan to snowboard with friends in a couple weekends. It's going to be cold constantly, probably 15 degrees or less every day. This is just about 20 mlles south of Lake Superior.
Any gear tips or things to consider?
Question about Stocks Jan 10, 12, 10:15 a.m.
Saw this article about Apple's Tim Cook today.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/sto…
Not being very knowledgeable of things like this, can someone explain to me how exactly someone in this position - rich as holy fuck - would be able to live a lavish lifestyle and have anything they wanted when the majority of their wealth was in stocks?
I'm assuming that to have the money tied to the stock, you'd need to sell it right?
Let's use Jobs for an example: If he made a $1 a year salary, and his only other wealth was his billions in Apple stock, how did he tap into the stock to use that money?
Mac wireless keyboard Jan 10, 12, 6:57 a.m.
Has anyone ever had any of the keys on their wireless keyboard go bad[insert question mark]
For some reason I can't get multiple characters around the portion of the keyboard, like the letter p, question mark, dash, comma, zero, etc.
Not tried restarting, but typed the letters above on my actual MBP.
What gives?
Our Kitchen Remodel Dec 30, 11, 9:40 a.m.
I posted over the summer that we were about to start remodeling the kitchen and living room in the condo that my fiance and I bought in December 2010. Figured that some of you would like to see the progress. We're almost done! Started in July and only have a few more things to do like lower cabinet doors (will be American Walnut), install surround sound speakers and finish off the fireplace wall with tile and tv mounted above it.
Original Kitchen
Everything ripped out
Living in Dexter's Kill Room
New kitchen wall and hardwood floor added
Cabinets being installed
Refinished hardwood floor (a long process to get this color)
New kitchen almost complete
White wall in center will have three panels of American walnut added
Using the blue in these mid-century chairs as an accent color throughout.
LED lighting above cabinets
It's been fun watching the whole thing come together. All cabinets and appliances are from Ikea. Doing custom lower cabinet doors because they don't have the color we want at Ikea. Really impressed with the quality and appliances are great. Induction cook top and electric convection oven are both pretty cool.
Will post some more pictures as we get things finished off in the next couple of months.
Your 2012 Goals Dec 30, 11, 8:05 a.m.
What are they?
Yosemite Camping? Dec 29, 11, 1:18 p.m.
Anyone here ever gone camping at Yosemite? I'm brainstorming a vacation there sometime in 2012 and would love to know if anyone's been to any of the campgrounds there, which you suggest, etc.
Google Analytics! Dec 8, 11, 1:01 p.m.
Anyone else use Google Analytics in the past few days? They've totally changed the main window, and you can't even see the %+- change in traffic, which was a great feature. Now you have to drill into each site, and then go into the usual data, but I don't think you can easily see that info anymore.
Why do companies like this go and fuck up everything that we're used to?
Breakfast/Health Shakes? Dec 2, 11, 7:45 a.m.
Anyone regularly make shakes/smoothies for breakfast? I found a recipe this week that the surfer Laird Hamilton drinks daily. It looked interesting, all the ingredient info seemed really positive. Bought stuff last night minus one ingredient and made one this morning.
Holy hell... I feel like I'm a million % more energized than any other morning, and I've not had any coffee today either. The one ingredient I left out was something for brain/memory performance because my health food store didn't carry it. If you into drinking things like this and don't mind spending a little $ for ingredients, I highly suggest this:
http://www.menshealth.com/nutrit…
1 tablespoon Catie's Organic Greens (www.energyessentials.com)
1 tablespoon Catie's Vitamin C Plus (www.energyessentials.com)
1 scoop Neuro 1 (www.nutrition53.com)
2 scoops Muscle Milk protein powder (www.cytosport.com)
1 tablespoon Udo's Oil 3-6-9 Blend (www.udoerasmus.com)
1-2 frozen bananas
1 cup frozen berries (any kind; I like blueberries, boysenberries, strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries)
½ cup organic apple or cherry juice or hemp milk
½ cup filtered water
Put all of the ingredients in a blender and mix at ice-crushing speed for 30 seconds. For a lighter version, eliminate the juice (or hemp milk) and substitute an additional ½ cup water, reduce the protein powder to 1 scoop, and use just 1 teaspoon oil and half of a frozen banana.
Focusing on Work? Nov 29, 11, 11:09 a.m.
Any of you have any tricks or methods for staying focused on your daily work? Around this time of year I just feel drained and find it impossible to sit and work on stuff for very long. I'm the kind of person where once I'm locked in after a half hour or so I'm fine, but it's just getting started on stuff that involves too many distractions.
The Most Offensive Thing? Nov 17, 11, 2:21 p.m.
What's the most offensive thing you've ever said or done to another human being?
Google Reader Changes Nov 1, 11, 1:17 p.m.
Anyone see the changes to layout and spacing on the page? They really jacked this up.
I can't even see the full names of blogs in the left column anymore, and all the posts have too much space between them now. I liked it when it was more condensed.
Screw it.
Being Thrifty? Nov 1, 11, 9:21 a.m.
Does anyone have any tips or things you do to save money and be thrifty? I'm generally pretty good with it but trying to be more conscious of what I'm spending over the winter to ensure I've got what I need for some snowboard trips.
Huge Scrotum Oct 18, 11, 7:49 a.m.
This is the most ridiculous story I've ever read, mostly just the way it's written, right out of the gate:
"It sat in front of him, on top of a pillow that rested on a milk crate.
He sprinkled baby powder on it -- what looked like a huge watermelon encased in a compression bandage -- but the unmistakable smell of urine couldn't be completely smothered.
"Hard to believe, isn't it?" 47-year-old Wesley Warren Jr. said in the poorly lit apartment. "It's freakish."
What sat in front of where Warren was seated in shorts -- what is actually attached to him -- was more than 100 pounds of scrotum, the protective sac of skin and muscle that contains his testicles."

Live band photo techniques Oct 13, 11, 10:31 a.m.
Anyone have any interesting ways of shooting live band photos? I've done some for friends and will be doing some more, and just wondering if anyone has any cool techniques you use, or examples of them.
I'm definitely looking for actual photo techniques, not post-processing stuff.
Guilty Pleasure Movies Oct 12, 11, 7:44 p.m.
Yours. Go.
Punches For: Oct 11, 11, 12:50 p.m.
Anyone who calls drums a "trap kit."
What other pretentious shit deserves a punch?
itunes transfer issue Oct 6, 11, 8:02 p.m.
I am hoping someone has had this issue before when setting up a new computer:
Old MBP:
itunes Library stored on external hard drive
New MBP: migrated itunes, but physically transferred the external drive itunes library to a new external drive.
Questions: How do I make sure that all of the files managing playlists remain intact? I am re-indexing my library now, but not sure how the playlists and other stuff get there because they're not in the new itunes.
Any tricks to this?
Help find game Oct 5, 11, 8:47 p.m.
A while back a friend showed me a game on the iPad that was yellow and black, and allowed you to build a big "maze" for lack of a better word in which a ball would travel through various angles and devices, similar to this gif that was posted in the gif thread:
Anyone know what the name of it is? I can't possibly imagine what I would search for.
Funny Office Stuff Oct 5, 11, 1:12 p.m.
Anyone do funny stuff around your office, either pranks or just general weirdness you keep to yourself?
I've been posting poetry to our kitchen bulletin board for about a month now as my latest "project" to introduce something different into everyone's workday. Started with images from National Geographic and searched on the web for poems related to a photo. Stated with a tiger, then a guy asleep undergoing a sleep study, then a wild bobcat, then a doctor testing something on a lamb wrapped in cheese cloth, then a boy laying on a gigantic python, and now a short haiku about Banana George, the barefoot skiing octogenarian.
Anything fun where you work?
