missing plug-in

Hi. I'm trying to listen to a radio station's online thingy but it keeps telling me I'm missing a plug-in but it can't identify which one. It says I need Windows Media Player, which I have. I'm on a Mac. Any ideas? There's a marathon of the morning show i listen to to benefit the UC Davis Childresn's hospital. They will be on air for 29 hours straight.

Favor for friend

My friend has 3 pdfs with some fonts on there that need to be outlined in Illy. I think they are mainly some Franklin Gothics and Helveticas that neither of us have. Does anyone know of a way in Acrobat Pro or something that will outline the typefaces in a pdf?

Cross-platform calendars

Hi everyone *waves*

Does anyone know of a good and easy-to-work with cross-platform calendar? Preferrably one where if you add something to a date, it updates on everyone's calendar? Has anyone tried Mozilla's Sunbird?

drawing a blank

what do you call the cards you can get at like art exhibits that tell you about the artist and has work samples on them? They are about postcard size. For some reason, I can only think of "leave-behind cards" but I know that's not the phrase.

Please and thank you,

This is my first site. Are any of these worth showing the client or do I scrap these ideas and start over?

Copyright opinion

Apologies for a long post:

I've got a client who is putting out a monthly publication, mainly of ads geared toward a specific demographic. If companies want to advertise but don't have an ad ready, they can pay a flat fee for me to do one.

I just read this article to clarify the whole work-for-hire deal
http://www.fineartregistry.com/a…

According to this attorney, the ad would be my "property" when all is said and done. My concern is if the company wants their ad, how do you feel I should handle this? They are not my "client" but I don't want to put my client in an uncomfortable position. I'm thinking of putting a statement on the sign-off proof that says if they would like to "own" the ad, they pay a flat fee (mainly because the flat fee they originally paid is pretty cheap). Do you think the "statement" i put on the sign-off sheet will scare away or cause bad feelings for my client? should i just let it go, bend over and give them the ad (but not the stock photos used)?

Bittersweet

So my best friend started classes for graphic design, transfered over to somewhere in Portland and then moved back. He only took like maybe 6 design classes mixed in with his general reqs. He works at a chain restaurant (the kind that would sing Happy Birthday to you) and, since moving back, stopped taking classes for about 3 years. Well his regional manager called him at work today and said,"So I heard you're really artistic and that you're taking graphic design classes. I'm doing a presentation for [other chain restaurants and a few fine dining restaurants], would you be interested in designing the presentation for me? I totally plan on paying you for this."

So of course my best friend says yes. Calls me to tell me the news, then asks,"So which program should I do this in?"

Oh I'm so happy for him, but it also hurts just a little. :P

wtf (what the file)?!?!?

Has anyone who's on a macbook pro had any problems with files not being readable on a pc? I'm using CS2 and saved eps, jpg and tif files for a client and they're not placing in Word. There's like a flash of a dialogue box that appears (too quick to see what it says) and then it shows that there's a bounding box on the page but nothing in it.

AAaaaannnybody have any ideas?

Please and thank you.

InDesign size wtf?wtf?wtf?

I got a new laptop and installed my ID CS2. For some reason, whenever it shows size (for document or spacing or whatever), any number after a decimal gets repeated. For example my page width shows 8.500500500500. It's even like that in my preferences. How do I make this badness go away?

Please and thank you.thank you.thank you.

Having Contractions

You know how, in PS, you can contract something by however many pixels you choose? Is there something similar in Illy?

Office Decor

Okay, some of you might have seen me post that my office is moving into a new building. The bosses found something they really like. It's not bad, but I think it definitely needs a new paint job. They did the inside to something similar to this

http://dynamicdecorating.com/0473_small.jpg
complete with crappy stenciling and dark mahogany floors - which i like - instead of tile. our studio looks like this currently (click on Tour pelase)
http://www.studiogdesign.com

Two bosses (the PM and bookkeeper) want to keep the faux paint finish and stencils. The AD (also a boss) wants to just paint over the stencils in the meeting room but keep the foyer in it's current style. He thinks that our paint colors will go well with the caramel-colored faux finish. I think that it will most likely look like crap unless we just repaint the whole thing. The Big G (big boss) is out of the office for a bit, recovering from surgery, so i'm hoping that he will agree with us artists/designers that we need to brand the building. The bosses just think we are being picky. what do you think?

i know i'm not a boss and paying for it, but just the thought of having any of the existing paint makes me embarrassed.
