CAD files Aug 5, 09, 1:21 p.m.
Does anyone know of a way to open/import CAD files into Illy without it looking like crap?
A client sent me dxf and wmf files of a metal plate drawn at 3/4 view in CAD but looks-wise we agree it's unusable. However client is trying to avoid me having to redraw these because there will be hundreds of parts that I would have to redraw.
Please and thank you.

Coupon Redemption How To Apr 8, 09, 4:46 p.m.
A client wants to offer customers a $10 coupon via email/web link after spending $200. What are some things that can be done easily and cheaply to make it harder for someone to print multiple copies or photocopy what they print out?
Please and thank you!
Stupid pallette question Dec 22, 08, 2:23 p.m.
In CS3 or 4, can you set preferences so that you can have multiple pallettes open (like History and Layers) at the same time instead of one closing when you open another?
I've searched and haven't found anything.
Please and thank you!

missing plug-in Feb 22, 07, 8:56 a.m.
Hi. I'm trying to listen to a radio station's online thingy but it keeps telling me I'm missing a plug-in but it can't identify which one. It says I need Windows Media Player, which I have. I'm on a Mac. Any ideas? There's a marathon of the morning show i listen to to benefit the UC Davis Childresn's hospital. They will be on air for 29 hours straight.
Favor for friend Feb 7, 07, 7:21 p.m.
My friend has 3 pdfs with some fonts on there that need to be outlined in Illy. I think they are mainly some Franklin Gothics and Helveticas that neither of us have. Does anyone know of a way in Acrobat Pro or something that will outline the typefaces in a pdf?

So I have these Illy CS2 files with tiff links that my client can open just fiine. He wanted to have Kinkos print out a proof but they couldn't. So he sent them to a small print shop and they can't even open the files. I sent versions in CS2 ai, Illy 8 eps and a pdf. The print shop was trying to open from the disk, but couldn't. Kinkos can open them but not print. The client and I can open and print all we want. Any ideas on what I can try?

Cross-platform calendars Nov 2, 06, 9:41 a.m.
Hi everyone *waves*
Does anyone know of a good and easy-to-work with cross-platform calendar? Preferrably one where if you add something to a date, it updates on everyone's calendar? Has anyone tried Mozilla's Sunbird?

what do you call the cards you can get at like art exhibits that tell you about the artist and has work samples on them? They are about postcard size. For some reason, I can only think of "leave-behind cards" but I know that's not the phrase.
Please and thank you,

This is my first site. Are any of these worth showing the client or do I scrap these ideas and start over?
Copyright opinion Sep 27, 06, 7:28 p.m.
Apologies for a long post:
I've got a client who is putting out a monthly publication, mainly of ads geared toward a specific demographic. If companies want to advertise but don't have an ad ready, they can pay a flat fee for me to do one.
I just read this article to clarify the whole work-for-hire deal
http://www.fineartregistry.com/a…
According to this attorney, the ad would be my "property" when all is said and done. My concern is if the company wants their ad, how do you feel I should handle this? They are not my "client" but I don't want to put my client in an uncomfortable position. I'm thinking of putting a statement on the sign-off proof that says if they would like to "own" the ad, they pay a flat fee (mainly because the flat fee they originally paid is pretty cheap). Do you think the "statement" i put on the sign-off sheet will scare away or cause bad feelings for my client? should i just let it go, bend over and give them the ad (but not the stock photos used)?

So my best friend started classes for graphic design, transfered over to somewhere in Portland and then moved back. He only took like maybe 6 design classes mixed in with his general reqs. He works at a chain restaurant (the kind that would sing Happy Birthday to you) and, since moving back, stopped taking classes for about 3 years. Well his regional manager called him at work today and said,"So I heard you're really artistic and that you're taking graphic design classes. I'm doing a presentation for [other chain restaurants and a few fine dining restaurants], would you be interested in designing the presentation for me? I totally plan on paying you for this."
So of course my best friend says yes. Calls me to tell me the news, then asks,"So which program should I do this in?"
Oh I'm so happy for him, but it also hurts just a little. :P
