We've talked about them before... If you like them, I've got one that is looking for a home.

Interactive job [remote]

We're looking for a visual design practitioner for a music/media related online application project that will start the week of January 4th and run in to March. We're looking for someone with great interactive experience, preferably with screen-based application work. The work is contract/freelance run out of our Austin office and there is some travel involved.

We're open to remote candidates, dependent on your experience and online availability during the day.

I'm including our post below. Please email visualdesigner_austin [at] adaptivepath [dot] com if you are interested in this position with a resume, pointer to an online portfolio or PDF

. . .

Adaptive Path is seeking an experienced Visual Design Practitioner in Austin, who supports our cause of delivering great experiences that improve people's lives.

About Adaptive Path: We're an experience strategy and design company based in San Francisco. Our consulting work enables us to fundamentally affect how firms, ranging from Fortune 100 to bleeding-edge startups, engage their customers with multi-channel experiences – including web, mobile, services, products, software, and more. Our public events provide opportunities for teaching, directly imparting skills and concepts. Our blog, essays, and reports allow us to spread the word far and wide, because we believe that by sharing what we know, we make the world a better place for everyone.

What we're looking for: Talented visual designer with interactive/screen-based experience to join one of our project teams from January through March in our Austin studio. Candidates should have at least 3–5 years of professional experience as a visual designer with strong information visualization skills. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability to work across a range of areas including interaction prototyping, dynamic data-rich visualizations and product interaction. Visual prototyping and production skills are essential, as well as a point of view about your work. Passion, not just for design, but for the impact that design can have on people, is a must.

Specific Skills: Successful candidates will be responsible for brainstorming creative concepts with the project and client team, comfortable facilitating visual design workshops with clients, develop initial design directions, create design systems, engage in visual design presentations to clients, and develop detailed design specifications for production. Intimate knowledge of relevant industry tools is a necessity. We work highly collaboratively both with internal team members as well as with our clients which makes strong communication skills key. We'll need you to be able to work on-site with the team in our Austin office as well as travel for a few 2–3 day trips. All candidates must submit a portfolio along with their inquiries.

Designer in Austin?

We're (Adaptive Path) looking for someone to work on a 3–4 month project in our Austin studio. We've got a post out there in job posting land, but we haven't had much luck in finding someone with several years of experience on interactive/screen-based work who is in Austin.

If you're out there or know someone who is contracting – send them my way and I can provide a lot more detail (I also posted this in the jobs thread).

Desktop TV

I'm thinking of dropping the overpriced comcast tv service and relying on hulu, netflix, online, etc.

Anyone who's abandoned their cable tv and set-up a desktop in its place? Pros and cons? Suggestions on kit?

Horton had a good suggestion – I'm just going to get this week started.

I've got a hankering from some bluegrass and some gypsy jazz... What have you got?

FMT: Bluegrass

I know I have a better chance at getting trancy-techno-electric-dance stuff up in here – but I bet some of you out there got some good bluegrass to share (Also accepting good folk or exceptional jazz).
