Quebec City?

How's it during New Years? Worth going? Just looking for a fast, festive, cheap vacation via NYC, very last-minute. If so, recommendations on where to stay?

Carpentry

So, I'm in need of a decent shoe rack for my apartment. Could not find a single item that matched what I wanted, so I modeled a basic one in Cinema4D. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get it built. Does anyone have any experience with carpenters in the NYC area? Is it unheard of to provide a basic model to a local guy and have him build something close to it? Would something like that be outlandishly expensive?

I'd love to be DIY about this and not spend more than like $150 but not exactly practical/possible for me.

NY eat & work joints.

In Midtown area, still hunting for the best space to grab eats, some coffee, and do some collab work with others. Sketching, etc. Don't need crazy amounts of tablespace, just some. Any recommendations?

Videos in PDF

Has anyone done any testing between Powerpoint and PDF, when it comes to embedding full-screen animations (.mov, H.264)?

I've seen one Powerpoint launch a full-screen video and it played flawlessly without stuttering (surprisingly). But I haven't experienced any PDF presentations, built in InDesign CS5, that have done it. I know it's possible, but I want to know if one format performs better than the other. The target machine would be a Mac (probably a laptop).

Block right click

How are these guys blocking the right-click menu from appearing? Specifically on Google Chrome.

I ask because it's infuriating and I want to disable it.

La Guardia airport.

Never flown from here, always via JFK. Wondering, by cab, if you think this Google Maps estimate is accurate, in terms of time?

Flight is at 8am. Is the 30 minute drive fair, or is it more like an hour?

Microsoft Outlook

Does anyone have any experience with a solution to treat Microsoft Outlook the same way Gmail does? I am at my wit's end with the oldschool gigantic scrolling list of emails. Desperately wish they would automatically cluster conversations the same way Gmail does.

Is there any adequate solutions/methods to doing this? The email system here at this agency is Microsoft Exchange.

Food critic master.

I've become enamored by this young professional's take on the snack-food world.

However, while I respect his pedigree, I highly disagree with this dissertation on Cheez-Its:

Real Steel.

It's pretty early still, so my mind hasn't quite had the time to fully process the immensity of lame in this video.

Probably around noon the aneurysm will hit me like a ton of bricks.

I never thought I'd ever make a post about tunafish. But I just had to share the absolute worst commercial I've ever seen in my life.

Napa Valley?

I've got some PTO days rolled over from last year I need to kill by April first.

Thinking of just doing a 3-4 day getaway to Napa Valley or something. Been mostly everywhere else in Cali. But I have absolutely no idea where to stay, what there is to do for 3-4 days, etc.

Any help making this random decision come to life?

Net Neutrality..

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ti…

For the first time in history of telecommunications law the FCC has given its stamp of approval to online discrimination.

Instead of a rule to protect Internet users' freedom to choose, the Commission has opened the door for broadband payola - letting phone and cable companies charge steep tolls to favor the content and services of a select group of corporate partners, relegating everyone else to the cyber-equivalent of a winding dirt road.

Instead of protecting openness on wireless Internet devices like the iPhone and Droid, the Commission has exempted the mobile Internet from Net Neutrality protections. This move enshrines Verizon and AT&T as gatekeepers to the expanding world of mobile Internet access, allowing them to favor their own applications while blocking, degrading or de-prioritizing others.

Excellent reel BTW. But what artist/track is this? Know I've heard it around the block before - from a movie?

Electronic goes piano..

There's a number of 'electronic' music artists who sometimes shake off the excess and go full-on classical/piano. For some musicians it's rare, but when it happens, it's really beautiful. Anyway, just wanted to get a list going of noteworthy examples.

Aphex Twin - Avril 14th
Aphex Twin - Kesson Daslef
Jon Hopkins - Autumn Hill

More suggestions?
