its funny how some agencies treat freelancers like total crap.. as if we're second rate citizens and are doing freelance because we can't find a "real" job.

dealt with a really condescending project manager today. the irony here is they were in a bind and needed a resource, yet the dude was giving me shit, trying to argue over petty nonsense and trying to push me around. uh, no, buh-bye.

i do not miss being an employee at an agency.

portfolio "cms" for client Oct 1, 08, 1:43 p.m.

a client is looking for a way to basically assemble portfolio modules together on the fly to create 1up portfolio pages for pitches.
they dont necessarily want a full blown CMS as much as just easing their burden

before i go burning a few of my last remaining brain cells on this, am i overlooking any premade solutions for this?

otherwise im leaning towards setting a buncha modules up for them and then assembling them w/ php in a list of "include_once"s

its pretty hacky but it seems the least involved perhaps?

i spend 50+ hours a week (if not closer to 60 or 70) in this chair. its a piece of crap from staples that was about $40 on black friday 6 years ago.

i dont mind spending $500ish for quality and comfort (vs. spending it on just a name/brand)

anyone have any suggestions? steelcase leap looks like a great chair. ppl keep suggesting HM aeron but it doesnt look very supportive

i troll craigslist a bit looking for gigs. it horrifies me to see people looking for html/css help and offering 9-12$/hr AND asking for a resume and portfolio. i made a fake email address just to respond to these crappy ads to tell them to go drown in an actrive volcano.

dont get me wrong, i love what i do now. leaving my agency 9-5 and going out on my own has been eye-opening and a great experience.

im finding now though i do more work for other people and less for myself. the portfolio is slipping and suffering :\

anyone else in this rut a bit too? i do a LOT of work but most of it is completing/coding other peoples'/agency's concepts, fixing other peoples' messes, etc.. Can't really claim that sort of stuff, can you?

i have a parent swf that loads external SWFs, one of which is an XML image gallery. (files were given to me this way).. it bottlenecks a bit when loading the XML contents, but works fine.

would it increase performance to preload the contents of the XML file (50 jpgs) into the browser cache or the parent swf? its late and my brain tapped out

preferably something that is saved so if all users disconnect they can later pick up where it left off

is there any way to use an xml file as a bit of a security key in flash?
if xml file on my domain exists the keep playing
if xml file doesnt exist the stop();

long story but im sure you all know where im coming from here. then once i receive payment i gladly send over a "new file" that doesnt have that blorp of code in it
