With all this playful hating on flavorful, who has played along with our loving jokes very well, I figured it was appropriate to start a loving roast of flavorful.

MBP won't wake up Dec 10, 07, 1:35 p.m.

Sometimes when I close my MacBook Pro to carry it to a meeting, when I open it the thing will just not wake back up. It goes into some kind of sleep mode. Hitting the space bar, trackpad, nothing. To fix it I have to hold down the power button and hard restart. Is there a function key I should be hitting? Any ideas?

ps. It's current/up-to-date with all it's software/firmware.

hey, i'm having a bit of a problem with the 2.33ghz intel core 2 duo macbook pro. when i hit the power button it starts up for about 2 seconds then shuts itself off. i hit the button again and it does the same thing. i press and hold the button for a few seconds while it starts and when i let go it shuts off again. i gotta keep doing it until the f*cker turns itself on. any ideas or quick fixes? also parallels crushed my system last week when it started up and somehow wiped osx from the computer so i had to re-image this bitch. i think microsoft is trying to get back at apple. anything?

Signed the last document a few minutes ago and all things have been finalized. I start Monday at my new job and I couldn't be happier.

So, I been gone a couple weeks focusing on freelance and updating my portfolio to help find this new gig. What did I miss?

i have to do some rich media banner ads and to be honest, it's not really my skill-set and i'm looking for any tips or best practices when doing so.

ie. should i design the ad in illustrator as much as possible to keep as much as possible vector based? are there any little things i can do to help keep the file size below 30k? 50k for the expanded panel?

any ideas?

i believe somehow, after picking up my iphone for a call with a new client, it opened up a time portal back to 1990.

client wants:
- no flash
- animated gif 3D spinning logo
- animated gifs, with fade from one picture to another on the homepage. 6 pics total
- animated gif rollover ads
- scrolling "message" text
- a blinking "what's new" banner

i did my best to not laugh but when they said "and we want it to blink" i busted out laughing.

ah, what a stroll down memory lane of designing for the web in 1990.

oh. did i mention that their current site is one giant image with image maps for links?

i sent off three concepts to a client on friday. i thought they were fantastic. from our initial meeting i get "we're looking for contemporary, clean, white blah blah then as i'm about to hang up i hear EDGY blurted out in the background."

imagine if you will, if buick were my client.

so i get a response today.

"we're looking for a cutting edge hipster site"

again. imagine if buick rebranded themselves and turned their site into said site above.

it wouldn't work.

i'm not even mad. i'm actually laughing. it's so rediculous. they tell me "NO FLASH" so this is all html and css, then want extreme edgy and cutting edge. hope you like a dog of a site that image heavy as fuck.

this is why i don't care much for freelance.

at least i'm charging by the hour so really, who cares. it's just funny. it would be like my grandfather coming over dressed like kevin federline.

i have updated and i have some issues.

1. how do i force the 1, 2, 3, 4 images to load in before the work? right now the work loads in first and 2, 3 and 4 look broken.

any ideas?

2. also. when the browser window is not wide enough the code throws 3 and 4 below 2. it works but i'd rather have them static no matter how thin the window is. is this accomplished with absolute positioning or is that the easy coding way out?

also. any optimization (coding wise) tips would be helpful if i missed anything.

anyways. when i started freelancing here i wondered why everyone on this side of the building, against the wall wore headphones... noise canceling headphones.

today was the first day i don't have mine on.

turns out there is some holistic (sp?) healing center on the other side of the wall for sick children.

good. fucking. god.

it sounds like a horror movie over there. i can hear the poor kids screaming through the walls. it's brutal!

i asked the dude next to me and he told me what it was. at first i thought it was sirens. so i'm looking around like wtf? then he clued me in on what it was. he even said they've talked to the people over there and they're like 'we've installed all the sound deadening material we can in the rooms.' ugh. horrible.

i will not forget my headphones ever again. poor bastards.

if you post a freelance job looking for a "Sr Art Director/User Interface Designer" you shouldn't have him doing 120x90, 160x90 banner ads for 2+ weeks, then, be excited to tell him "GREAT NEWS, WE HAVE MORE BANNER ADS FOR YOU!" when i'm obviously hungover as fuck.

i can't start my new job fast enough. good lord.
