anyone know of a script that calculates scale and rotate repeat for optical effects like the old gator?

yes this example is dead easy.

i need to use more asymmetrical shapes and off-center origins so a basic transform, copy and repeat isn't going to work.

or maybe there's some math term for these things which I could google?

Phillipe Halsman (who shot the famous Dali portrait) is all I can think of. Man Ray is another but his style isn't really what I'm after.

if a i'm supplied a vector barcode, can it be scaled (reduced) proportionally, or is the exact width of lines as generated necessary for a proper scan?

in other words, if:

2mm bar + 2mm space + 2mm bar

is reduced 50% to:

1mm bar + 1mm space + 1mm bar

... does that screw up the scan?

soft returns in AI / ID? Apr 19, 10, 11:47 a.m.

all the soft returns (linebreaks) are getting stripped out when I paste my text from Apple Pages into Illustrator and/or InDesign.

I don't remember having this problem before. Not sure if it's a Pages thing. Also tried an RTF export placed into ID but same problem.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Any fixes?

Calling all advanced Illustrator kids;

Placed grayscale tiff. I'm determined to gradient fill in AI... obviously PS would be easiest.

I thought there was some new way to gradient fill images but google is giving me nothing.

I did figure out a nice little trick by using an opacity mask on the image with grad to zero, then duplicating ontop, flipping the opacity mask and filling image to 2nd color.

works! but seems a little sketchy to send for screenprint seps.

am i missing the obvious? punch in the face if you say Photoshop.
