hosting for complex site

I am about to go live with a WP site that is heavy on content and ajax and JS.

The budget host I use is having trouble keeping up with the load.

What kind of hosting should I be looking into. What makes a plan suitable to this kind of site?

updated port

Updated the ole photo port. Went super low tech with a gallery straight from lightroom.

www.jamesguild.com

Portraits are more of a hobby than profession, and I'm always looking to hook up with folks to make cool photos. I'm in the philly area btw.

do my work for me

I've got this logo to do and the client absolutely insists that it be the company initials AAM. Not words, not an icon.

They want a clean/slick/cool feel. Like apple basically.

This letter combo is so sterile that anything I come up with looks too....sterile.

Any inspiration would be appreciated

font alternative

Hey started comping a site with a google web font and let's just say there is a reason it's free.

It's the "SCHEDULE" and SEARCH RESULTS" headlines.

Looking for a typeface that look just like it, but is not drawn so damn sloppy. I know I've see it before.

deep question (or not)

whats the most important thing you have learned about life, business, art, etc that you are not able to practice?

I'll start.

Business: Deadlines mean everything. The best design in the word is worth fuckall if not delivered on time.

Life: too many to list.

WP photo gallery Q

Just putting together a WP site that will have quite a few photo galleries as posts.

What is the best way to go about this. I need something really minimal with thumbnails.

How does WP handle this natively?

logo ponderings

I prefer to design a logo with simple lines that works in one color, but there are certain times when a full color logo with gradients just seems right so I do it.

Whats the thinking on this nowadays? Is one color/no gradients still the norm?

For you type minded folks. I drew this from scratch, heavily influenced by Neutra Text.

Looking for input on proportions, kerning, etc

digital video question

A friend of a friend had a guy shoot their wedding. They asked for all the footage and no editing. Guy said fine.

What they got looks like crap and is only playable in quicktime. Even at the HD settings it looks bad. Video guy says its him and that the video quality is top notch pro stuff.

Here is a 24mb clip http://www.jamesguild.com/0013KC…

Would someone download it and tell me exactly what we have here? I now NOTHING about video. Do you need some special software to get the most out of it?

small JS tidbit

Have some scrolling images contained inside divs with the same class.

Need a bit of JS that executes one command if the image is clicked in the left 50% of the screen and executes another if it's clicked in the right 50% of the screen.

Basically trying to make images scroll left or right when clicked.

Anyone want to do this as a tiny job, or point me in the right direction?

back up yer blog

It's a no brainer to backup all your important files, but it never would have been a priority to back up my blog.

This sucks:

My computer needs a major upgrade.

I have win7 x64 installed on a SSD boot drive.

If I build a new i7 system, (mobo, processor, ram), will it boot if I plug in my current boot drive?

I figure Id def have to update all drivers and such.

un-opened 7D refurb for sale

Brand new with receipt and warranty. Never opened, canon factory refurb sticker is unbroken.

An employee of a company I was doing work for stole and sold my 3rd body (7D).

Rather than involve the police and insurance the owner replaced it.

Now I'm thinking I would rather have cash towards a lens.

Asking $1000. Bought for $1350 from canon direct.

indesign cs5 scale image

It was always a no-no to scale an image in indesign, and I was told to scale it in photoshop.

Has this changed? Is cs5 better at scaling images for export to pdf documents.

Especially at more than 100%

And happy fuckin 4th! =)

ALSO, I have one ot these sitting around if anyone wants it, lol. http://www.amazon.com/Strobofram…

replace image w/ video

is there a simple way to replace an image with a video (flash, mpeg, whatever) when the image is clicked? Oh yeah, then display the image again when the video is over =)

Philly/NYC digital printers

So after WAY too long searching for exactly the right photo book to offer clients, I have determined it doesn't exist and I will have to source it myself.

Have a top notch bookbinder that can do exactly what I want, and am looking for a quality digital offset printer to supply the pages.

Anyone have a short run printer they use?
