Studio VS Agency VS Consultancy VS Firm

A question for everyone: How do you determine which noun is the proper semantic when describing you design/creative business?

To give some background - The company I currently work for is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a much larger company. We are a small group - about 15 employees, and are wondering what is the best term to describe this venture.

Studio - we feel studio might earmark us as 'too small' for our audience. Although our staff is relatively low we don't want to give the impression that we are just a couple of people in someones garage.

Agency - We feel this makes us appear larger than we are, although the term is not inaccurate. We just don't want to be mistaken for a really large agency.

Consultancy - this makes it sound like we don't actually do the work but rather simply 'consult' on it.

Firm - too boring?

Anyway, i'm curious to see what others think.

Shopping Around

So I just discovered that our studio lead is shopping around for a new job.

He went out of town last week to see his 'sick uncle' and came back yesterady. I needed to borrow the studio laptop for a presentation this afternoon. When I opened the laptop finder was opened up to a 'Portfolio' folder and there was a PDF in the folder with his name on the file. I opened the PDF and the second page in was

"Thank you company X for the opportunity to interview..."

To be honest I don't really care much that he's shopping around. Actually, if he wants to leave then more power to him - he's a talented guy and deserves a better opportunity should one present itself. Heck, i'm not above shopping around myself (3 interviews in the past year).

Anyway, I was more wondering if anyone else caught their coworkers / higher-ups 'shopping around'? What, if anything, did you do about it? What happened to that person? Did they stay/leave? And what would you do in my position?

Have fun... ;)

Hunting Season

Any hunters in the house?

Bow season started 2 weeks ago in Michigan. I haven't bow-hunted in years mainly because I don't own a bow.

But I plan on going out for rifle season in November. I got a new slug gun (H&R 20ga ultra slug hunter) and just ordered a scope for it (redfiled revolution 2-7x33) with the hopes of rag-dolling me some wildlife. Pretty excited to use the new gun.

Endless Icons

These icons kinda suck bro... =\

Overall lacking attention to detail, don't scale particularly well, stylistically are very pedestrian, and aren't particularly memorable...

But here's a free bump....

Electronic Thank You letters

I'm receiving a lot of flak from relatives for not sending hand-written thank you letters for those who attended my daughters birthday party this last weekend.

While admittedly cheap they were very personalized and also included a link to download some really stellar photography of the birthday girl in question.

And in all fairness, i'm the only working parent in the relationship, so I can't chide myself on being too cheap. Resourceful perhaps - but not too cheap. My wife is a stay-at-home with our daughter and I pretty much footed the entire bill for the party, not to mention all of our monthly expenses, bills, etc.

While i certainly appreciate a handwritten letter as much as the next does proper etiquette deem it absolutely necessary in the electronic age to produce a hand-written thank you? I'm thinking it would probably be $20 or thereabouts for the cards + postage.

Social Media Counter

Yo,

Anyone recommend a relatively bug-free social media counter plugin / script for a website? I've been trying a few jquery ones available on the internet and have been met with varying degrees of success.

I'd simply like a few social media buttons with their respective counters to hide in a footer.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
