Does anyone know of any pictures, timelines, videos, blueprints etc for large scale urban development?

For example engineering plans for a whole new district of a given city, a new expressway being built through a residential area or something like that...

I'm going to New York for the first time on Friday. Staying for 10 days and would like some tips on what to do and where to do it.
