Image scaling

Hi guys, i posted a question similar to this before, but I now have a better example of what I am trying to do, so thought I would try again!

http://thomasbrown.info/marc-qui…

Basically, the images scales when the browser is made thinner as well as when the height is adjusted. I have looked at the various background image ways of doing this but none seem to work like they do on the example. I also tried looking at the JS but it is all split up and beyond my knowledge.

Any help would be great. Person who helps me most gets a beer.

Folio Print - Auckland

A friend of mine who has recently moved to Auckland is looking to get her folio printed (10-15 A3 digi prints only, ideally on a nice 130+ stock). Any recommendations? Or is it just a case of going to the NZ version of Kall kwik?

Cheers

Lovely work.

Now, can someone tell me how on this page they have the image get smaller height wise when the browser is shrunk in height?

I know it is easy done with width:100% for width but no idea how to get this to work for height.

cs3 Indesign process problem

I have a one colour document but as soon as I add a table preflight sees a process black as well. I have changed the table colours and no problems but it still shows up as process black when I export. If I look at seperations preview nothing shows up at all.... I'm confused and cannot find anything similar in the google.... any ideas?

Scaling images with browser Q

http://apracticeforeverydaylife.…

Lovely site and I like how the images on the homepage scale as the window is made thinner/wider or taller/shorter. Any ideas on how this is done? I've seen the examples with a full screen background image but cannot find any like the APFEL site.

Photography Q

Just reading this about focal length having no real world bearing on DOF - http://www.luminous-landscape.co…

Am I being stupi or is this simply because he is moving further away from the subject which means the DOF gets larger... So basically moving back (and giving a wider dof) is offsetting the fact the focal length is going up (and giving a shorter dof)?

Canon 70-200

I am thinking of buying the 70-200 2.8 lens but am undecided about going for the IS option, is it still possible to get hold of the original IS option? All the ones I am seeing online are the Mk II and paying an extra £900 - £1000 purely for IS seems quite steep.

The cheapest I have found the 2.8 without IS is around £900, but adding IS Mk II and it jumps to £1700... is it worth the extra?

ID Question

Am using Indesign for the first time in a while.... do you guys create a paragraph break by hitting return twice or by setting a space below in the paragraph settings?

I used to favour setting a space below but combined with leading and baseline grid it makes me sad.

What do you printy types do?

Hello

I am looking to use this with jq cycle to on an ipad you can swipe between images.

Can anyone let me know what to change 'swipedElement.style.backgroundC... = 'orange';' to order to achieve this?

function processingRoutine() {
var swipedElement = document.getElementById(triggerE...
if ( swipeDirection == 'left' ) {
// REPLACE WITH YOUR ROUTINES
swipedElement.style.backgroundCo... = 'orange';
} else if ( swipeDirection == 'right' ) {
// REPLACE WITH YOUR ROUTINES
swipedElement.style.backgroundCo... = 'green';
} else if ( swipeDirection == 'up' ) {
// REPLACE WITH YOUR ROUTINES
swipedElement.style.backgroundCo... = 'maroon';
} else if ( swipeDirection == 'down' ) {
// REPLACE WITH YOUR ROUTINES
swipedElement.style.backgroundCo... = 'purple';
}
}

Vote for this please

A man I know designed this tshirt for Biffys summer tour. I think it's amazing and would like it to win. It is between this and a really boring design. Please vote for this one, it would make everyone happy.

Grid Based

My friend Ryan has just relaunched his Grid Based site. Really good range of sites and updated daily.

If anyone has any good/nice Grid Based sites they should submit them to him.

Already added this to public choice. One of my fave sites for keeping up to date without spending hours searching myself for Nicely done, grid based designs. A few designers here should submit there personal sites to it.

7d flash question

Hi guys, recently started playing with the onbody flash on my 7d.

I have read on a number of sites that having the flash up in av/tv mode will make no difference to the exposure. An example of what i am reading is here (http://www.flickr.com/groups/ca... - "a flash will work as a fill light in Av and Tv, i.e. your camera still exposes as it would without the flash".

If thats the case I am having a problem, if I set to Tv and set my shutter and iso and get for example a f stop of 2.8... then I pop the flash up and the f stop goes up to around 4. Its almost like the camera is changing the exposure to take account of the flash.

I thought the settings stayed the same and then the flash brightness would be set based on the preflash?

Am I missing something here? any help would be great

James

Scaling down in PS

Right, I have a load of screenshots of sites but when I change the size down in PS the quality doesn't look great, I know this is to be expected but I wondered how others do it. I have tried scale, image size and changing image size in save for web and all give slightly different results... what do you guys do to give as crisp a screenshot as special? Im generally taking a 1200px screenshot down to 600 or 800.

Google Places

I'm having a bit of an odd problem with google places... If i go to any listing on google maps and click edit details, then sign in using a google account (which is new and has no places or anything set) I get a pop up which says 'This place has been claimed in Google Places and can only be edited by the owner.', I follow the link to google places where I can edit the listing... sure, I have to confirm its me either by getting a pin over the phone or by text, but I could simply change the phone number of the listing to mine, recieve the pin and take over the listing... Is that right? I have a few listings set up on places, surely its not that easy?

Any help would be great
