Do Canadians Like America? Jan 23, 08, 9:08 a.m.
I ask this question because, I got an earful recently from a good friend from Canada. I thought we were more connected, clearly he didn't. I'd like to know from you Canadians out there the unbiased point of view of what Canadians think of America. Please don't turn this into a rant.
Please day can you end faster. Sep 19, 08, 12:24 p.m.
I am counting I swear I am counting. 323.. 324.. 325... :) let the coronas flow.
How does one avoid clients from hell? May 5, 08, 8:49 a.m.
Ok so as I ran into possibly one of worst clients recently I'd love to know how people avoid clients from hell. More importantly do people make a check list to protect themselves from... the miner's , the "I only work with spec-artists", I have two guys who could do this "in 24 hours" the "I don't really believe in 50% upfront so I am not going to hand this check until the very last possible moment and why haven't you started on my work" into you types?
I guess a bit of business education could have gone along way for me back in college but it seems I keep running into people who just don't get it, and it might possibly be me. But at the end of the day my question is how to find good clients. Who understand schedule, budget and ethics. I'd love to know if people have a checklist of things they try to make sure of before going any further... and if you do please post.
Copied.... wow. Nov 3, 08, 12:36 p.m.

Alright here's a silly question. Where'd the term letting come from? I can't seem to wiki it. I know where kerning came from type setting and all but if anyone has a proper definition of it I'd love to find out where it came from.

Anyone else thing getty killed istock? Jul 25, 08, 11:39 a.m.
Anyone else agree that istock has become too costly for its members and getty went over board and made it really expensive? If I was a photographer I'd be kinda upset at the rates too.. Istock used to be the lower end now its trying to make itself the bridge between getty and the lower end. I will still use it for vector but even that is becoming too expensive..
Anyone ever attempt to do a book? Oct 2, 08, 2:35 p.m.
I am just curious. I am starting to gather some illustrators, who I am all set with. And trying to pull together some writers, who I am still searching for to do a children's book. This is a personal project. I have never tried to do one of these before. But I'd love some advice from you the publishing experts about making a book for the first time.
Design Symbols Sep 30, 08, 1:08 p.m.
Alright I dont know who thought of them but I just wanted to get out there some great ones. Maybe we can generate a list of the best of the best.
I'll start:
"The Cross." So many meanings religion, wayside signage.
"Play Symbol" How did a triangle become known as play. That's kinda crazy when you think about it.
New Poster I am playing with Jul 11, 08, 12:41 p.m.

Tutorial On Pattern Making Aug 27, 08, 12:40 p.m.
Alright so about 2 hours ago I was tricked up in trying to figure out how to make objects perfectly line up by hand for illustrator to make symmetrical 5 and 4 point patterns.
This is how you do it in illustrator without buying software and its very easy so for those of you interested take a second and try it for yourself:
1. First off, load up illustrator search illustrator in the top left and click on the drop down menu for 'preferences' ---> guides and grids
2. In that menu fill in Gridline every: 10px, and 1 for subdivisions.
3. go to view turn on grid, and snap to grid.
4. create a box that is 120 x 120 px make sure it is exact and is lined up with the grid.
5. Create an object or load one up. when its completed make sure you mathmatically purportion it to 120. so 20x20 / 40x40 / 60x60 all work. For the sake of exercise make the object 40x40.
6. put the object in the center of the box by lining it up vertically and horizontally with the box behind it.
7. duplicate the object and place it in the top left hand corner. make sure that the object is centered at the top left point. repeat this for all 4 corners.
8. take the objects all 5 of them now and go to the path finder tool and mesh them together as one piece hit expand and then....
9. create a 400x400 box it doesnt matter what color and then duplicate the orignal 120x120 box and put it ontop of the 400x400 box and center it.
10. use the path finder tool to cut the 120x120 box out of the 400x400 box and then take that 400x400 box and place it over your stars. crop them.
11. take the newly cropped pattern box and place select it with the black arrow and drag it into your swatch book.
12. create any kind of sized object and click on the fill swatch and your done.
Have fun, I just felt like sharing that with everyone because its usefull to creating a pattern at any size and it took me 3 hours to figure out how to do it perfectly and it annoyed me that people were charging 250 for a plugin do it for you.
Be thankful, Jun 13, 08, 7:30 a.m.
Damn... Well this week was crap for one of my friends. His studio was completely flooded and destroyed. He had no flood insurance for an area that hasn't had major flooding in 500 years. This is his town. http://www.gazetteonline.com/
I wanna figure out how to help the poor bugger out. Well happy friday...
