I'm looking for bundled auction sites or templates that are clean, easy, and customizable for something like a silent auction for a charity or arts organization.

Who are some bigger name designers who also make art or have had gallery shows?

I know people like Paula Scher make paintings, Maira Kalman (though maybe a bit of an illustrator), Todd St. John sells small run prints and sculpture, Steven Doyle does some stuff, Geoff McFetridge.... Who are others along those lines that make original art and have had gallery shows of artwork, not design work?

Who are some bands, or even record labels today that have a very distinctive designed look to them. From the album art, videos, logo, tshirts, to the live show (projections, clothing, etc)? Ones that obviously have some heavy art direction help or a strong opinion on their "look". Maybe their is even a designer in the band.

Dark/Horror/Subversive NYC Oct 5, 10, 1:19 p.m.

Does anyone personally know talented artists based in the NY area that work in Horror, or other weird "dark" areas of design?

I'm interested in gathering up some folks to talk about weird art for an event later this month.

Things like.
Dark Tattoo Art, Rogue Taxidermy, Prisoner Inventions, gravestone design, drug branding (heroin, E, etc), Black metal logos or artwork, Sideshow art, fine art, s&m, burlesque, etc.

I've got a few people in those areas interested already, but just want to extend it, but they must be NY based or willing to be here on October 26.

I need to build a super simple upload site for some old fogies to use on my webserver. Just a blank page with a Browse, Submit button, and loading bar. Trouble is that I am code illiterate. I toyed around with php tutorials this weekend, looked into jQuery as well and almost got it working (the files load, but do not stick to a redirected folder). I'm also not quite sure if I am adjusting my size and file limits correctly as the page will be for uploading quicktime files up to 1Gb. The site is not business related in any way (read $0 budget), just to collect assets for a design talk. Solutions like yousendit/rapidshare are over their heads. Giving them ftp info is over their head and I do not want each person to see what else has already been uploaded by others. I will be clearing off the folder as the files come in for the most part.

Uploadify seemed like a perfect solution, but still can't get it working quite right.

I'm basically asking if any code wizards could donate a few minutes today to help or if someone knows of a template or tutorial that is as simple as me downloading some files to upload to my server. I would be indebted to you forever for this favor.

I won a trip to Egypt during a silent auction last Spring and have decided to book it in late November. It's only for 8days and unfortunately it's a bit of a tour package that includes all the main sites around Cairo + 3day Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan... I figure I needed to see all that historical stuff while I was there anyhow.

I'm looking for more specific local recommendations from anyone who might live there or has been before. Or maybe something of a "best of" list (best falafel, etc).
Interesting parts of modern Cairo that are off the beaten path, restaurants/cafes, shops, art galleries, or other things design and culture related. Any info is welcome... thanks!

That said, our 1bedroom will be available in Boerum Hill (state st.). It's a good place for a single and we pay $1600. Ground floor w/ bedroom in the basement. 2bath. approx 700ft. Close to all trains.

Doh! The person who was going to take care of my bunny for me while I am in Japan (May 14 -31st) flaked on me at the last minute. Would anyone like to watch a very well behaved female lop-eared rabbit for a couple weeks at your place? I would be happy to arrange some sort of payment for your kindness. I have a good size cage for her with all the supplies she will need. She is very nice, never ever bites, litterbox trained, no health issues. Very photogenic if you need to use her for a film shoot ;)
