i have this crazy idea of doing something with google maps as a self initiated project. i've been having it for a while and think it is time to carry this out. i have *just* enough coding knowledge to freak around a bit with the API.

Anyway, one thing i always wondered, you can't change the look/colors of the existing map material, eh? i believe you can only work with overlays, polygons etc.

Anyway, let's gather all information, resources and hacks in the coming days, here in this thread.

short translation:

drunk guy as last passenger in bus arrives at final destination near the racing circuit "Zandvoort". Driver gets off bus as his job is done for the day. Drunk guy takes his chance and steals the bus and drives it onto the circuit. Drunken driver doesn't realize the circuit isn't made for busses and hits a bridge, completely dismantling the top of the bus, airco installation etc. Police on motorbike tries to catch drunken bus driver on circuit and finally arrests him. Drunken driver now says he can't remember a thing. Black hole in his memory.

sometimes step back and look at graphic design from the perspective and interests in life of someone not being one?

this is hard. but the better you can, the less disappointed you will be and you will find out that most people will regard designers as DTP technicians with a 'fancy' feel for 'pretty' images.

in fact, if you are going to go any further, intellectually, or in dive deeper in whatever clever semantic double layer, people will bounce back and think about ANYthing but design.

in other words, design in the 21st century should only cater our pavlovian mentality, nothing more. Clients will only think they pay extra for it.

Developers will be far better off than designers.
Functionality prevails for most clients, but not in the sense of a "grid", or helvetica. no, to them SEO matters, webforms, email marketing response etc.

It's where the money is.
