Susan Best looks at minimalist artists throughout the last century.

Susan looks at various artists from the 1960's and 70's, with particular emphasis on Eva Hesse, and how their work transformed the avant-garde protocols of the period by introducing an affective dimension to late modern art. This aspect of their work, while frequently noted, has never been analysed in detail.

Dr Susan Best is a Senior Lecturer and the Art History Postgraduate Coordinator at the School of Art History and Art Education at COFA. has expertise in modern and contemporary art, with a particular emphasis on conceptual art, women's art and Latin American art. She teaches courses on: Abstraction; Psychoanalysis and Art; Art, Gender, Sexuality and the Body; Late Modern Sculpture; and Modern Latin American Art.

Her book, Visualizing Feeling: Affect and the Feminine Avant-garde (London: I.B. Tauris, 2011) focuses on four well-known and highly respected North and South American artists of the 1960s and 70s: Eva Hesse, Lygia Clark, Ana Mendieta and Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. The project was funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery grant.
