Any sites that showcase good web font combinations? ie Headers and copy. Especially using Typekit etc?

Apple Style Slider

Anyone have any good examples of an Apple styled slider, similar to this - http://jqueryfordesigners.com/sl…

I thinks that's an older version of what Apple used to have on their site. I like what they have now at http://www.apple.com/mac/ - if any examples of something like this, even better!

Must be jQuery BTW.

jQuery clear input default text

Anyone have some good code examples of clearing the default text for input and textareas on focus? Was going to use the HTML5 'placeholder' but target audience will probably be some older browsers.

Looking for one that has different coloured fonts for the focused and non-focused text.

Yes or no?

Was just about to open a portfolio account for $49 but thought I'd check with the experts first.

PNG Fix

Does anyone bother applying the PNG fix for older browsers anymore...or do you just assume that PNGs will work?

Facebook IPO

"The graffiti artist who took Facebook stock instead of cash for painting the walls of the social network’s first headquarters made a smart bet. The shares owned by the artist, David Choe, are expected to be worth upward of $200 million when Facebook stock trades publicly later this year.

The payout to Mr. Choe, the graffiti artist, could provide more money from his paintings than Sotheby’s attracted for its record-breaking $200.7 million auction in 2008 for work by the artist Damien Hirst.

In 2005, Mr. Choe was invited to paint murals on the walls of Facebook’s first offices in Palo Alto, Calif., by Sean Parker, then Facebook’s president. As pay, Mr. Parker offered Mr. Choe a choice between cash in the "thousands of dollars," according to several people who know Mr. Choe, or stock then worth about the same amount.

Mr. Choe, who has said that at the time that he thought the idea of Facebook was "ridiculous and pointless," nevertheless chose the stock.

Many "advisers" to the company at that time, which is how Mr. Choe would have been classified, would have received about 0.1 to 0.25 percent of the company, according to a former Facebook employee. That may sound like a paltry amount, but a stake that size is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, based on a market value of $100 billion. Mr. Choe’s payment is valued at roughly $200 million, according to a number of people who know Mr. Choe and Facebook executives."

Image Copyright Q

A client of a client has claimed copyright over an image they claim to have created. There's no issue here, but I just wanted to determine whether such a generic type shape can be claimed as copyright? Is the fact that it was created from scratch enough, despite the fact there are millions of different versions of this on the web?

Facebook image question

I have a Facebook 'like' button on a site I have done...the like button goes on each news page. Is there a way to determine which image gets used as the Facebook image? I've got a 'Print this' button on the page, and that's the one that is being used by Facebook!

Dev Hypothetical

Pure hypothetical here. A bloke I used to work with is looking at to starting a niche web development business. He's more a marketing/PM guy.

The business will target a particular industry and will need a web CMS with a database that can integrate with an online store, inventory management and email marketing.

He has no real preference in terms of the platform it is developed on, but wants it to be extremely easy to use from the admin's perspective - eg, the CMS should be 'Wordpress-like' in its simplicity but have enough grunt.

Not looking for opinions as to whether this will work or not - he wants to do it and has some cash to hire staff - he's just interested in opinions as to what might be a good platform with ready access to developers.

It's not really my area so any advice welcome.

Apple Exec bonuses

Was just reading on CNET Apple Inc was giving $60m in bonuses to it's senior execs. I assumed it was to be split among them...but turns out they are each due to receive 150,000 shares with half of them vested in 2013 and the other half in 2016.

Based on today's share price, that is $60m EACH. Have I miscalculated something? Pretty obcene if you ask me, no matter how well the company is going.

The Haka

"If some of the All Blacks persist in ending this latest version of the haka with a throat-slitting motion, they will be using a very big stage to remind people the Maoris once engaged in unspeakable conduct, which we don't discuss any more."

I for one reckon the Wallabies should have brought out a few beers and belted out a rendition of Khe Sanh.

Infidelity of the day...

From eBay

You are bidding on a TomTom Go 700

This was my wife's, may her knicker draw be infested with the fleas of a thousand Camels...

The Go 700 was once the top of the range Sat Nav from TomTom, with an internal Hard Disk Drive instead of the traditional SD Card, and had full Bluetooth and Wireless capabilities.

I bought this for the back-stabbing harlot, some four or five years ago, before she met Nigel with the Little Penis, and it cost me over £400...
As bless her cheating little heart, she gets lost driving out of the street...perhaps without this she would never have found the way to Nigels door, nor perhaps his stain riddled bed...

Her infidelity was discovered when I took her car for an MOT, and while waiting, I was tinkering with the Sat Nav and noticed that all her recent journeys had all been to Nigel's...
So, like any normal human, I reprogrammed Nigel's address to one in a town far far away...

My wife bless her treacherous ways, didn't realise there was anything amiss until she was driving East along the M4.
She then tried to act all innocent and lying through her cherry red venemous snake lips, asked if I could sort out her beloved TomTom as something was terribly wrong with it: when she used it to drive to her sisters it took her along the M4.
I presume her sister means Nigel with the erectile problems...
With the anger of the betrayed I said I would, but my frustration and anger caused me to accidently delete all the files from the internal drive instead...

Words were spoken, accusations were made... The air hung heavy and was coloured blue with profanity...
I find it difficult to believe her claims that this is all my fault...
I wasn't the one getting lost while travelling to Pencil Dick Nigel's house...

After much arguing she has decided her future lies in the squallor of Nigel's cockroach infested hovell...
Good luck to them both... may the ten plagues of Egypt visit their stained adulterous bed...

Partial CC Numbers stored

I bought some goods from a local online store some time back. Used my CC to purchase.

Just went back to buy something else and went to update my personal info. Apparently they are storing half my credit card number online - first 4 digits and last 4 digits.

Is this safe? How hard is it to crack a CC number with the middle 8 digits missing?

Javascript q

Being the novice that I am, just wondering if this is possible.

I've got a page that contains quite a bit of content. About three quarters the way down the page I have an anchor and a link to it at the top of the page.

Just wondering if it is possible to trigger some type of event that will take the page down to the anchor after, say, 10 seconds without the user having to click anything?
