Street Photography Camera Jan 7, 12, 12:35 p.m.
All QBN photographers & esp Hombre_Lobo the "qbn camera answers man"
I'm looking for a replacement camera to my Ricoh GX100 and would appreciate any feedback about my shortlist, esp if you have these cameras or have testied/tried them.
I got the GX100 a few years ago after selling all my Lomo LC-A+(Plus Wide Angle Lens), Holga and other retro cameras. These cameras made me fall in love with photography all over again as it was fun and experimental again rather than being clinical and digital.
I chose the GX100 over the GRD because it had the zoom lens. Something that's handy for getting closer to things up high. I love VERY wide angle street photography so I use the GX a lot with the lens hood adaptor, 43-46mm step up ring and a Nikon WC-E68 lens. This means that im carting about a tiny camera but with a big hefty lens on the front most of the time.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IN A CAMERA:
- Small size (Both camera and lens - the smaller the bulk, the more likely i'm likely to take my camera out with me)
- Fun (Not too much faffing around too)
- Image quality (Both high and low iso's)
- Possibility of v.wide or fisheye lenses (would be on most of the time)
- quite discreet for shooting on the sly
- zoom/telephoto lens(es)
THE SHORTLIST
Fujifilm X10
Not the smallest of cameras but thinner than others with lenses when camera is off. I've seen people with filters screwed into the front so I wonder if I could get step ups from 40.5-46mm and use my Nikon lens for this when I want to take very wide stuff.
Not a huge sensor but it gives great results from what ive seen on flickr and review tests.
Seen it described as a P+S camera that pro's have been wishing for years to happen.
To turn on you twist the lens which cuts out having to click a button to turn on then think about taking the photo.
Pentax Q
With this camera I think people "get it" or they just "dont get it" and will probably slate it. I love how fun this camera seems whilst still knocking out decent quality pics even at high iso's! Size is tiny - although with some of the lenses on it, it becomes a chunkier thicker thing.
Lots of filters/effects/settings you can set to quick dial on front. Decent selection of lenses for high quality or fun shooting.
Kinda pricey for the spec on paper.
This guy does a great review and think he feels the same about this camera as I do. We "get it"
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 + 14-42mm X Lens
Kinda chunky body but coupled with the X lens doesnt give such a huge bulk. VERY high quality 16mp! Could buy a fisheye/wide lens to carry around when shooting.
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF3 + 14-42mm X Lens
A lot smaller than the GX1, only 12MP though. With the X series lens it isnt a bulk.
Pentax Q Jan 4, 12, 1:30 a.m.
Really loving this little camera after discovering the reviews and videos online.
It's getting some flack from folk who don't "get it" but others who do "get it" love it.
Finally a digital camera that can truly replace all those lomo cameras I had without the need for post production to get the desired effect.
Great video ... think the guy is as excited as me about this camera ...
Hombre_Lobo, have you had a play with one of these yet?
Xmas present from BMW Dec 20, 11, 5:31 a.m.
Last friday the power steering in my Mini Cooper S failed whilst driving to work in the morning. Luckily I was on a straight road in the city centre and not booting it on an open country road otherwise i'd have ended up in a ditch.
This is a known problem with the early Mini's and has been on the news and all over mini forums online. If your car is out of warranty then sometimes you'll have to pay around £400 to get it fixed or sometimes BMW will pay for most of it and ask for a contribution of around £100 from the owner.
Well, I got a call from my local franchise yesterday after dropping the car off there last friday. They'd put in a 'goodwill' request to BMW to see if they would pay any towards the fixing of my car, and .....
.... they are paying the full whack for me! :)
My car is years beyond when it's warranty ran out yet they are paying the whole £400ish.
It seems there IS such a thing as Christmas Cheer!
Thank you BMW and Merry Christmas.

Rapist / Lads Mag Dec 13, 11, 1:47 a.m.
This is kinda shocking ...
http://jezebel.com/5866602/
"According to a new study, people can't tell the difference between quotes from British "lad mags" and interviews with convicted rapists. And given the choice, men are actually more likely to agree with the rapists."
There's quotes at the foot of the article from both lads mags and rapists. See if you can tell who the quotes came from.
(There's answers underneath)
QBN Points Dec 12, 11, 8:23 a.m.
There's some real shite posted on the Public Choice, isn't there?
To cut down on the amount of spam that's on the site, can there not be some kind of points system where people can "like/dislike" what you post and based on the results earns you points which in-turn gives you the ability to post to the PC.
And for the Public Voice, when you post something it goes live immediately but if more than 3 valued QBN users (users with certain stats/membership length) click the "dislike" then it gets deleted.
If a valued user then abuses their position and just marks something "dislike" out of spite then they can have their valued status taken away.
Doing something like this would stop all the shite in the Public Choice and also Public Voice wouldnt be full of SPAM!!!!
LEMUR on iPad Dec 8, 11, 1:38 a.m.
The rumours that have been circling around for the past month in the digital music world have been true .....
Jazz Mutant "Lemur" has been released by Liine for the iPad!
A bit of kit that was selling for around £2000 is not an app for £36.
I bought it last night and can't wait to get stuck into it over the weekend!
Hurricane Bawbag Dec 8, 11, 6:20 a.m.
http://entertainment.stv.tv/opin…
In Scotland today we are facing public service warnings from all media and police warning of a hurricaine that's hitting this afternoon.
The name "Hurricane Bawbag" has already become a trend on twitter.
They are warning of winds of 80mph and above!
That's nothing bad though, we get winds like this every year.
Maybe if you're down in England 80mph winds are pretty scary but in Scotland, 80mph winds is just "windy".

Budget is £50 a pair.
Looking for best comfort (7.5 hours listening a day!) and best sound.
Any suggestions.
