I've been working on this site for a little over a year. I do pretty much everything - publishing, editing, illustration and design.
Would love to know what you think, what's working, opportunities for improvement, and if you have some words of encouragement that would help me keep going it would be much appreciated :)
Tools: Framer, Procreate, Affinity Photo 2.
Illustration Process: Sketching IRL, Illustrating on the iPad Pro with a custom art board.
Editing Process: managing a slush pile with Moksha, editing using Google Docs.I guess you would classify this as an independent press. I'm going to be attempting to bring more well-known authors to contribute, and pumping up presence at conventions, so ideas for swag would be appreciated as well. Maybe tee shirts or book totes?

It's a little boring, but works
- Get rid of the word FRONT on the home page
- Make the footer links black like the rest of the text

First thing I though of was PhanLo

what is it?
I probably need to know that up front, even if you do - inside an out.

"Phano delivers wondrous, thought-provoking content about the future to the questioning masses—beautiful stories, essays, interviews, reviews and art to make sense of our world in constant change. We want to shine a light on all tomorrows."
Until you're established, you really need to spell it out for the plebs.

after a story, I would expect related stories. not Previous... or Next up... just 3 related Story links from the Archives (can be the previous or next one).
also, they lag a bit in loading while scrolling.
I love the the typesetting in the stories, but it could use some idk visual accent sprinkles, like initials, even decorated initials. or cliches, printer’s ornament, dividers... just to guide / entertain the readers eye.
- Maybe some custom dingbats?cannonball1978
- yes, dingbats, some classic or custom ones:

The search/hamburger menu/subscribe icons feel dated. I realise that the weight and rounded corners relate to the logo but I would make more minimal and modern.
The width of the centre column feels too narrow on larger screens unless you're going for a nostalgic feel.
I think you could use more contrast between the text sizes, either make the body copy smaller or the heading larger or both. I would flip the typefaces and make the serif the headline and the sans the body copy but that does get done a lot.
The tags/folios could be smaller and maybe monospaced. Should be same padding on the top/left of them.
Agree with the other comments above, also not really a fan of the get this, get that in the footer, get fucked?
The full page menu doesn't make use of the full page, and the type style feels a bit default. I think it should either be more visual or more minimal.
- Fair point about the text. Lots of variation since it's pulled form the CMS so its a slow massage.cannonball1978
- The ingredients are all there, nice work.slappy

Use the ō as texture somewhere just to make it a bit more interesting, even if it's just offset large in the background with a low opacity.

I see some contrast/accessibility issues - specifically that orange on orange story - The Formative Enemy Mine
