afternoon all,
I'm looking to purchase a bike (in London) and really like the Vanmoof bikes:
http://vanmoof.com/shop/catalog/…
However, I'm wanting a single gear (or more) as the thought of riding a fixie in London scares the shit out of me.
anyone know any similar makes?
Looking to spend max £500
thanks

The first thing the site says is ”shipping is free in the Netherlands, and the rest of Europe for only 30 euro's”.
Why not just order online?
- Because they only make fixed gear bikes and I don't want a fixiedomacle
- you can change a fixie to a geared bike or even a free wheel.e-pill
- How? And how much does it cost? :)domacle
- contact a local bike shop and ask them if they can do it. show them the bike you want.e-pill
- see if it can be done locally and then order the bike online, as that design is original and cool.e-pill
- or see if a local bike shop carries the vanmoof bike brand, or contact vanmoof directly..e-pill
- ..and ask them for a local shop that they recommend who can change the gears for you..e-pill
- vanmoof may retail fixie only, but i am sure they retail parts for geared bikes separately.e-pill
- giving their consumer demographic a broader range for profits rather than limiting it..e-pill

I recommend getting one with gears.. even if you're not doing any hills. The stop-start traffic is bad enough without having to start in a high gear every time.
Those bikes are sexy as fuck, though!

a Fixie with a brake (oh, the blasphemer I am) is actually fine in Chicago traffic.... I was scared at first, but I learned to anticipate traffic wierdness better, riding a fixie caused me to pay more attention, be more present, stop daydreaming...

They're not fixed, they have coaster brakes. You just peddle backwards slightly... which is great if you're cruising the board walk, not so great in London traffic with a million Boris 'idiots' around you. You'd have to add a free wheel, brakes and all sorts

At first I rode fixed without a brake, then almost got hit by a bus when I was skidding down 6th street into Downtown LA. Got a brake the very next day, it's fine, especially with traffic and unpredictable drivers. I don't trust anyone behind the wheel, especially when they're able to kill me.

Bump cuz its been 8 years and they're still around and put out a few generations. Considering the S2 in LA. Anyone have experience with the brand? Im really drinking their Koolaid right now lol..
