Lukus, your idea to let the corruptible bureaucrat muppets in governments decide how stuff should be sold is what scares me. It's not the corporations that brought the current crisis on us as you say, it was mostly government control (ie. political-correctness driven Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae). They keep telling it was the lack thereof because they want more – and this is what they're getting.

Don't worry about monopolies, they always fail, they're unsustainable in the long run. Worry if they get politicians to rig the system for them. Letting governments decide about markets is a perfect door for it.
What is important is to have diversity. There are closed systems and open systems, this is a healthy situation. If you force all systems to be open, you ironically get less options: no closed systems.

Let the corporations fight each other competing. It is always good for the end customer who gets a cheap and developed product. American working class was the first in the world to be able to afford luxury products like cars. All thanks to hard competition.
The beauty of free market is also there is always a place for a David amongst Goliaths. This is more true now than ever. Facebook was founded in 2004 in a dorm room.
The Crunchpad story, failed for organisational reasons, showed how easy it was to produce a touchpad tablet. Almost anyone can make one and they will.

    • Yeah, but it's the fact politicians are corruptible that's the problem. We need to reduce the possibility of lobbying maybe?

    • maybe?

    • I think part of the reason we're in this mess, is because there was a lack of regulation. Maybe economists would agree.

    • But I understand your fears about gov. control. I do think that laws and legislation does have a place in society though.

I feel the same way - I _CAN'T STAND_ Apple fanboys!! .. especially the 'dude / bro' vernacular that will inevitably come with their online posts, due to the fact their SOOOO keen to show that they're 'cool' and are not like the nerds who use other platforms.

    Make me want to vomit.

We're all making assumptions about ways that it's good/bad but it's kinda pointless to speculate isn't it? I'm guessing that, like me, none of you have ever used a large tablet device like this. Once you drop your $500-900 on the thing, is it going to end up being this amazing intuitive device that you use everyday like the iPhone, or will it end up being a novelty that we'll all get sick of it in a couple days? For me that's the main question, not whether it has Flash or a camera. I'm kind of tempted to buy one just to see, but I'd rather wait for the 3G enabled version at the end of the month.
