Does anyone know of any awesome books that are about interface design theory?

I was happy to bump into this totally radical and super-fresh site from the totally tubular lady who did a lot of interface design for apple and ms a few years back.

Thanks for the link! Holy crap, those icons bring back memories! Especially the "Bomb" and "Alert"
But I'm specifically looking for books.

in all fairness, I found the link yesterday on NT. It was a nice find.
Only book I have relating to interface design probably isn't what you're looking for, but it's the 72 DPI book from DGV – it's one of those "design for designer's" type books, everything is pretty "experimental." Not knockin it at all, it's a very cool book.

isn't Hillman Curtis like the UI expert, he's got some books
Edward Tufte is information graphics/philosophy writer, he's got really good books on the subject of organization, logic,
are you looking more for the theory or the application?

I'll still give it a try.
On an unrelated note, I just read a fairly old article where Susan Kare (the person whose site you posted with the old Mac icons) mentioned how much she loved the UPS logo for many reasons. How coincendental that they JUST changed the logo.

I'm actually looking for both, sauerbraten.
:)

yeah, she knows her stuff. but then AGAIN, she's not the demographic for those M*FER's!!
sorry... just venting.

i wouldn't recommend getting one of those lame books that just showcases "award-winning" interfaces and such.. it'd be better to talk about what the theory behind good UI experience, besides the hottest trends in buttons, transitions and crap..

Check out Boxes and Arrows' website for some Information Architecture and UI book reviews.

The Icon Book: Visual Symbols for Computer Systems and Documentation
by William Horton - hell wicked, focusses on icons but the implications have mucho resonance...&
Homepage Usability: 50 Websites Deconstructed
by Jakob Nielsen, Marie Tahir ... this is one the best books i have ever come across, say what u like about jakob but his pedantic analysis of other peoples mistakes can tech us a shitload...& oh and the classic -
Designing Web Usability : The Practice of Simplicity
by Jakob NielsenI know a lot of designers don't think much of Jakob, but i personally think that can be put down to the fact that he demands alot from them... ppl often misinterpret him as being anti-creative, but i personally think his views are reminiscent of that bauhaus crossover between art&industry, just expressed in a less polite manner :)

Corin is my new hero. Anyone who can equate Nielsen to Bauhaus and make sense is a person to know.

Here is a book that came out last year and is very informative. It even has preliminary sketches from each designer or studio.
