i got one of the vaio xg series when it came out, and it's been good to me.
i dunno about design, though. i don't trust tiny lcd notebook monitors for that sort of thing.

i've got a vaio gr series. P4 1.8, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD, 3xUSB, firewire, memory stick, dvd/cd-rw, and its the dogs bollox. and a beautiful 16.5" screen.
got photoshop, illustrator, and the whole MX suite on there, and running IIS and ColdFusion MX Server on there.
but, like scarabin says, i tend to run any design packages on my second monitor (its got a dual head graphics card and a monitor output as standard), and code/script on the laptop.

dude, why would you want to do web/design on a laptop...Sony PC's suck because they have idiot vaio software installed that once you delelte you end up with a amillion error messages. You want a good pc, you build one and install your ow software.
If you don't know how to build one, find someone who does.

i want to do web/design on a laptop because i'm a web developer, i spend a lot of time on trains, and carrying a PC around is a nightmare - even if the uk trains had electrical sockets on them! do i work on the train? no, but i need to watch dvds/divxs on something!as for sony laptops - granted, some of the software is shite, so you don't use it. simplae as that. and they are the most beautiful laptops in the world, and everyone knows that beauty is far more important than brains. ask jennifer lopez.
