what's with these cats that are like "I'll give you this project right now and there are many more to come but first take a look at my site and see what you can do for me" ... free is never stated but obviously implied. This shit is really bothering me, some may say hey .. gotta get a foot in and whatnot but really, if I were to take my truck to the shop and say hey, you can fix this one right now but take a look at my buddies car ;) it would never fly.
I remember when I started on my personal site (after being in the field for 6 years and mustering the courage) and would hear people say things like "freelance is pouring in, it's allways coming" etc. etc. and i'd research and for dam sure that designers site was solid. I would think to myself, well if I just get a couple gigs a year on top of my full-time job then I'll be straight. Well now a year later I can say shit ... I have more freelance work than I can handle, so of course I outsource to my crew but my point is dont sell yourself short man. Here is the motto to go by for all the lancers out there... Sales isn't the most important thing, it's the ONLY thing. You think 90% of the crap online was because of a client "not knowing what his piece could be" or "hasn't been exposed to good shit" ... that's bs. They are exposed to solid shit every day, they buy cars computers albums etc just like us. They know what's killer and whats not so what is the determining factor? Your tact, your sales ability. Gone are the days where you can just be fluent in a certain app and gain respect, the personality has to be there. I don't know what the hell I'm talking about really, I'm just telling you my experience since I've ventured out. God knows I'd love to roll through rts games and try my hand scratching all day and on occasion kick out some wicked work for clients now and then and have enough income to get by but it's a myth in both the US and abroad. So far from the truth that it in itself poisons humans. This is no dam mission statement or nothing of the sort, I'm just venting because I hate to see those that are talented in the arts undercut themselves or those not so talented fail to devote themselves into it. All this crap on tv is a trip "go here for super duper cert. of graphic degrees!" "be the first on your block to aaanniiimaateee" etc. it's wild. I'm amazed every day when I see somebody post "looking for a gig" blah blah and I hit there site and you know what I think ... shit man they are bad as hell, I'd be honored to work on a project with them. How can this be? .. must have been a split somewhere in the last 2 years. Dig deeper or dig wider, I think those that dug wider are doing ok and those that dug deeper are maybe pulling through. thoughts?

this deserves a reply to at least say "damn, that's a lot of writing"
I've been working on my personal stuff for a while, but my major problem *is sales. Even tho I'm decent, I have very little confidence and terrible ability to sell myself. I'm getting better tho...
so, to everyone who is like me, try and remember something I've heard many times from professional wrestling training.. "If you don't believe it, they won't believe it"
If you don't think you're the shit, no one else will. So, I'm going back to finish a presentation for an interview, good luck everyone, and hopefully i'll get this job!!

i have no clue what in the hell you're talking about.
you may have had a point somewhere in that novel of a rant but you jumped around so much it didn't make any damn sense.

yeah your right gabe, too much shit to cover. our field is just so twisted right now .. I feel like it's being raped by an unknown perp. not the bastards that want free shit, not the bastards that roll through the 8 week super degree, maybe just the whole cummulative effect I guess.
