everyone has their own favorites,
but there are always a few that really inspires you and you can read it over and over and over again and still able to get more out of them."Flatnessisgod", "Buro Destruct"(the blue and orange cover) , "Noise Four" , and "Swiss Graphic Design" have been getting me going for a while.
then ofcouse, LIFE itself is inspiring , but that's not my point here. You favorite book(s)??

Steve Heller is great.
His story* on how he became a designer is pure class. They should make a film 'bout that.*Read The Graphic Design Reader

I bought "Life style" by Bruce Mao a while ago.
I was all excited when I bought it, but it wasn't that inspiring, it's like a personal journal of his deign.
not that it's not great, but besides a amazing cover idea, there's something lacking inside.. but I can't pin point what's that exactly.
It's not even the topic here, but I just feel like bringing it up anyway..
any feedback on this?

Yeah- I was all excited about Life Style because of S,M,L,XL and I found the collaboration interesting. But in a way I felt that the book was trying too hard and much of it was filling the space to create a hefty book. However, it reamins to be an interesting book.
I find some monographs interesting like Soak, Wash, Spin or whatever it was from Tolleson.
I often carry about a small book on the architect, Tadao Ando, The Colours of Light.
I find the big book on Rand and excellent resource and Lars Muller's book on L. Muller-Brockman.
The Harvard project, on building cities is fantastic. Foster On, On Foster is also very interesting as it is quite personal.
Design, Writing, Research - is thought provoking but I wont read all of it.
And I am off to replace my much missed, Grid Systems right now from a fantastic book store - William Stout. Though, if you're in London, Magma Books (magmabooks.com) is equally as great.
Keep suggesting others, I'd like to buy more books.

I like design books that shows me the artist's/firm's process to the solution.
All the reseraching and sketching and refining and conflicts with client and ultimately finding a solution that satisify both ends.
Knowing other designers' way of sloving problems helps me in a great way.
and it's amazing to see how all the rough sketches develope into the final design.
any good books like that out there?

for a while I was also hooked on those motion graphics DVDs I was buying GAS BOOK and FLIPS and all those plus design books and porns.
I'm so glad I'm done with those DVDs.
Now I can afford to eat out .
