i hooked my girlfriend's powerbook up to my monitor and have since given it back to her, since the resolution was changed all of her windows are too big for the screen, any simple ways to fix this without hooking it back up to the monitor and making them smaller?
I cant exceed the resolution that I had it set on because the powerbook doesn't offer one high enough.
I would assume there is a simple answer to this or maybe I'll just have to stop being lazy.

Assuming its a powerbook as in apple, just go to system prefs and select monitors and change the resolution.

the resolution is in your control strip! If its not on, turn it on in your control panels!!!

maybe i didn't word this well. I can't just go to system prefs and increase the resolution because it is currently set at the highest resolution the computer will allow. When I change the resolution to a smaller one the windows are still too large (vertically) to fit on the screen. The reason the Finder windows are so big is because I had the powerbook hooked up to my monitor and had it set at 1600x1200. As far as the control strip im in OS X.
I think I am just going to reconnect it to my monitor, resize the windows and disconnect it. thanks for the help.

try this
• go to "System Preferences" via the dock
• then click on "Displays"
• click on the button to the right that says "Detect Displays"
it should then reset itself and work like normal. Otherwise do Apple+Option+Esc and restart the finder. Or just restart the computer and it should work. If that still doesn't work then you done messed up that computer pretty good. I'd then hook it back up and change the resoluition down but I am not sure why the monitor would effect the resolution on your powerbook. Is it a G4 or G3??? I have a Ti and have never had any problems like this and I unplug from my dual monitor all the time.

it's a Ti. I tried the detect display thing, no luck. I plugged it back in to my monitor and resized the windows, and now they are within my grasp again. muahahaha.
restart didn't work either don't know what happened.
thanks.
