Client just gave me a list of META tags. Along with the typical ones (DESCRIPTION, KEYWORDS) he also wants the following. Are they necessary.. or even valid??
- Loopy0
Here are the tags he wants:
META NAME="Language" CONTENT="global"
META NAME="revisit-after" CONTENT="20 days"
META NAME="Distribution" CONTENT="global"
META NAME="Robots" CONTENT="All"
meta HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache"
META NAME="abstract" CONTENT="stops telemarketers"

they're always usefull for search portals- search engine robots search for these tags once they find the pages and place them on the searchresults.

Page titles have little more precedence with some search engines though.

Thanks folks!
Very helpful as always.

Google ignores most of 'em as do many search engines. Focus on your h1 tags, page titles (1st 2-5 words), and content. Your content should echo the most critical terms you want people to search on; bonus if they match your titles and h1's. Don't go overboard though ;). Also remember to create an entire sitemap and submit THAT page to the search engines. And remember, links from other sites to yours are your best friend
all this info I heard from the senior search engine technologist at ConsumerReports.org
