so handed my notice in yesterday after 8 years at my agency. There were several reasons
- lack of advancement despiet most people introducing me as a senior in the agency
- new middle management are all stick and no carrot
- 5 people left so far this year with no replacement, everyone is overworked
- new CEO says doing a good job isnt good enough
- lack of support when i predict challengesFeels good to move on
Weve had 2 meetings in 1 day about staff happyness, how the business is going to support us, whats being done about workload
think ive highlighted a flaw in the current business and theyre keen to address it but its too little too late.
moving to an inhouse role, putting myself on a digital marketing manager career path now.- theres more money in it in the long run.

Good for you, you’ll feel like you’ve made the right decision when you’re no longer having to jog through the mud of false promises.

The only downside is you’re going to miss out on the end of year pizza party in lieu of profit-shared bonuses.

Spending years at a workplace doesn't gives you privileges?
What i see here is
- no ambitions to find ways to develop your own role
- too stubborn to accept new people
- can't keep it up with the youngsters
- you don't understand each other with the new CEO either
- instead of doing what matters for the company you cry a lot about future problemsthat place no longer had a good effect on you, leaving it was a really good choice. if you don't mind my advice is to try to calm down and don't even have a single thought that you could have decided differently.
i hope this new position works out for you and maybe you find a new profession what gives you far more joy and satisfaction than anything else before in the field of work.
- read until the end :)sted

- Wow. that list in the beginning is an abusive employer's wet dream. There isn't any basis for those accusations.CyBrainX
- i can see how that could be read that way but that says more about you than me.trooperbill
- there are always both sides of these stories i think you know that. most of the times when ppl think in such extremes, the other side of the story is similar.sted
- but it does not change the essence:
where you have such thoughts, you must leave.sted - *two sidessted
- Lack of advancement is reason enough after 8 years. Negative bullets here don't really provide anything constructive to the situation.cotton
- Aaah suck a dickcannonball1978
- @cotton at some point you have to realize certain limits of your position and this discovery has a direct impact on your expectations and behavior.sted
- the approach of expanding these limits varies, and defines people. sometimes a failed one starts a cunami what ends up in that the personsted
- can't take a constructive approach to any further cooperation and sees only the other party's decisions considered to be wrong.sted

^ that seems a bit harsh.
FWIW from the outside looking in, I think search consulting in general is facing a number of pretty major challenges, not the least of which is chat bots that replace search engines (and websites).
Your gut was probably telling you that the business was shrinking, and helped motivate you to get onto a new path. Sted is completely wrong to say you have no ambition to develop your own role. That’s exactly what you’ve done. Working ever harder for smaller and smaller crumbs is not a path to success.

Congratulations. I bet as a few months go by at the new job, you'll start to feel like you should have left the old job years ago.
How did you find the recent job market? I've been looking for a little more than a year and find it's improved recently but it's still horrible.
- the market is bad - people only hiring people already at the job level, agencies taking ages to process applicants. some weird psychometric and logic teststrooperbill
