Google searches are overwhelming so maybe someone here can help.
I'm working on a mobile app and want to create a few sound effects for certain features like in-app notifications, for example.
What is the best software I can learn in a very short amount of time to make a few custom sounds effects from scratch?

Maybe record stuff from a soft-synth? minimoog model D and KORG ikaossilator synths on the iOS store are free until the end of the month so could be worth an explore.

Haven't looked, but I imagine there's a lot of free sample packs for this exact sort of thing. If you have to do it yourself for legal reasons or whatever, Reaper is free for a limited time. You will not learn it in a short amount of time, however.
- Yeah my admittedly limited experience with buying/licensing sound/music clips was all the countless hours of searching. But I'll check out Reaper! Thanks!SteveJobs

If creating from scratch, it's either difficult or hard. In as much as you'd either being using some foley recordings, then eq/compress/edit them. Or you'd be using a synth as a source. All requiring a decent amount of audio production learning to get anything close to how your minds ear would imagine things to sound.
Or it could be as simple as garageband and making a few sounds on a synth etc. recording to audio, edit, export.

Not an answer to the software question but enjoyed this run through of some classic game sound effects...
