Anyone achieved this? I've always been fascinated with lucid dreaming and this crisis seems like a good time to learn more about it and how to do it.

I tried it out, but didn't keep up with it. I got as far as recognizing it was a dream and attempted to take control of it. Once I was aware of the dream it was hard to maintain and usually jumped back out. Some indications of my dream was trying to read a nameplate and turning on a light switch. Probably 3 or 4 weeks of keeping a dream journal bedside and repeating a thought when sleeping. My goal was to have dream sex with Elizabeth Hurley. HA.

- bezoar is on point - first you have to dream so you can then have a lucid dreamtimeless
- other than the journaling you have to tell yourself, as you're falling asleep that you're going to dreamtimeless

I used to do it in my early 20s when I had a lot of time for naps. It took me a week to master it.
What worked for me was picking a known object or person to try to dream about. Eventually when that object appeared in my dream it made me conscious I was dreaming. At first I woke up right away but gradually I managed to walk the line between dream and consciousness. It's a fine line and you'll usually end up waking up, what worked for me was giving myself an order and then letting the unconscious take over.
I also had bad experiences usually when taking naps where I felt conscious but couldn't control my body, it was an overall feeling of dread. I eventually learned to calm myself down until it passed and I could wake up.
A couple months ago I had a brief lucid dream without even trying.
Don't expect too much out of it, it's just a fun trick.

I have them because they're a byproduct of sleep paralysis.
You find yourself right on the cusp of wakefulness, and then either let your mind go on fast forward until you fully wake, or try to direct the dream. It's best described as having to be consciously committed to your own unconsciousness.
This happens to me several times a month, and to be honest I fucking hate them. I'd rather just sleep.
If you are interested in triggering them, try making a tea out of Morning Glory seeds. That said, I don't know why would anybody want to experience then.

Used to have these a lot when I was dream journaling and BEFORE having kiddos. There is a very short time between realization that you're dreaming and waking up.
I've been directed to think of people that you know (when crowds appear in your dreams) and then you'll start spotting them.
My fav thing to do is gently push off the ground so I'm parallel to it and float/glide/hover around. Like swimming but in the air. This comes as no surprise as I'm a rather large mammal and love the weightlessness of swimming.

Anybody had OBE or Astral stuff?
I tried that for a while but never worked. Then I read some stuff and got scared.
Now I'm interested again. But I'm too lazy to wake up in the middle of the night and try sleep paralysis.- I don't believe in it. I think it's just a forced interpretation of dreams.deadsperm
- What about the CIA programs? I read some official documents about their tests back in 80s. They used it for a long time, maybe still..Beeswax
- I dunno dude, my experience was very down to earth.

used to have a lot of sleep paralysis.
I had it so often, I got really tired of it. Then later, I was able to sleep through it.could control dreams several times. Now I just don't dream anymore.
- How long were your spells? I've had a few where the gf has been trying to wake me up for half an hour, and the entire time I'm trying to shout:garbage
- "I AM AWAKE, DUMMY. I JUST CAN'T MOVE."garbage
- Lots of sleep paralysis here. Do you also have sleep apnea or what would you attribute to the paralysis?bezoar
- No apnea. I'm not sure how long the paralysis later. Hard to react time in that state.pango
- *lastedpango
- However I also used to experience sleep walking when I was about 8-10pango
- I have paralysis, night terrors, sleepwalking. Sleep run at times. Crash into things. My gf is on standing orders to slap me awake if something seems off.garbage
- Once I was fully awake, just getting out of bed to get a glass of water and she slapped the shit out of me because she thought I was having an episode.garbage
- LOLpango
- Ha! Seriously tho, sounds terrible.bezoar
- Ha yeah, slapping is necessary evil. Our old apt was 3rd floor with a balcony, and I woke up with the front doorknob in my hand wondering where the fuck I was.garbage

Yeah I’ve done it, I do wonder though weather it’s actually just the dream within a dream going on. IE you believe upon waking up that you had a lucid dream, but really you just had a dream that you were having a lucid dream... Every time I experience a lucid dream though, I end up flying and it’s awesome

My son is really into it.

^ Likewise - hand in hand with sleep paralysis.
My lucid dreams are so real I hear complete music, feel touch down to individual hairs and leaves and textures, ask people and things if they are aware they are in a dream... it's really amazing. Though most of the time it's panicy and frightening as have that 'paralysis' feeling nagging away at me.

For some fun:

I had one as a kid, and it was the coolest experience, I was flying through clouds. Since then it happens very randomly maybe once every couple of years or so. As someone mentioned above, the time you are aware and then wake up is very short at least for me. So I saw this on a banner ad recently, they have these things that flashes a light. I saw a documentary once about this lab that they would use a machine that would give you a slight electrical pulse as well during sleep.

I've been able to do it a couple times.
And yes, an object to focus on does help..JET PACKS!!!
A slight obsession. But my first lucid dream came unexpectedly and I felt that I needed to quickly think of something to do. The jet pack came to mind and I was so excited to get the thing on that I crashed into a nearby office soon after take-off and woke myself up. Second time, I was in the desert with a lot less buildings around me to crash into. I got some serious air. The thrust, the wind, landing, all of it seemed so real.

once had a dream where i was paralysed in bed and something was dragging the covers off me. got to the crotch and my brain kicked in and i thought. this is a dream atw hich point the covers slowly slid back up. in my dream i sat up and did a double pistol fire into the ait shouting "ah ha" and laughing. workup shortly after tucked up nice and cosy with a big smile on my face.
also had a dream i was in an earthquake... turned out that we had actually had one and it was real - we dont usually feel them in the uk.

Wasn't scarabin into this? It seems to me I remember him linking to some resource online in another thread maybe two or three years ago, but fucked if I remember which.
- this is the book he recommended. also pretty much recommended by pretty much all lucid dreaming enthusiasts.pango

I did it for about six months when I was 14. Every single time I slept, without effort. I didn't even know what it was. I tried to explain to my parents and they looked at me like I was insane. I probably wasn't good at explaining, internet wasn't common yet, and none of us had ever even heard the term lucid dreaming.
Later in life I've tried to get it back a few times, but only once have I come close: the waking within feeling, but without the control.
I wish I could get it back! One of my favorite things, ever. It's like living in the Inception movie.

when it happens its pretty cool but real life is better
