For some of the better office furniture that's built to last, I think used is a good option (though not herman miller. That name=$$$ even used.)
As an example, I have one of these Haworth Very Task chairs. They are around $1500 new but I got it for $180 used in perfect condition. They seem less well known so easy to find a good price on the used market. Very sturdy chair, probably good for 300lb. 12 year warranty. Nice ergonomic adjustments. Seat pan not very comfy but I put a cushion on it and it's fine.
Also have a Knoll Chadwick chair. Nice and airy, fewer adjustments than the Haworth and not quite as robust, but still pretty strong (maybe < 240lb) and a comfier seat than the Haworth. I've seen loads of these for < $100 used.

- drafting tables are "higher" than normal tables, so you need to sit higher and have a place to rest your feet.monNom
- also good for lazy stand desk users.uan
- maybe not strictly true for all drafting tables, but certainly for large ones.monNom
- good for workbenches too where you might alternately be standing at the bench, or seated. I think 36" is common for a workbench, 28" for a desk.monNom
- What is the point exactly of both table and chair being higher?drgs
- plans larger than table don't end up touching the floor.uan
- large formats make reaching to draw uncomfortable. a height adjustable stool/table combo, and a more vertical board makes larger work (like 1:1 plans) possible.monNom
- and you can't well draw if the table is touching the floor, so it's got to go up.monNom
- Yeah, its definitely not for medrgs

How long have people spent getting used to a new chair?
I have a really bad back but the new chair I bought is absolute agony in all the places that didn't hurt before. Years of poor form to correct, I guess.

- She needs to go to Japan and see the populations inwards bent legs, then have a rethink on this floor sitting stuff.shapesalad
- I do this. I learned the floor sit in Indonesia hanging out with locals decades ago. and I kept the practice. Good to have skill imo.uan
