I have a 7GB 3D animation for a website, what's the best way to put it on the page?
It was made in After Effects and it's already compressed to H264...
Link to Youtube?
Any other options?

erm.. that's pretty darn big for web media, no?
- Gnash3
turn it into a animated gif and post in the gif animation thread

What's the resolution & length? What's your bitrate? h264 doesn't mean much if your bitrate is too high.
Run it through handbrake?

err...no, really?
thing is they work in 3D and Product Design and they made this animation full of 3D work of them they would like to use.
it's 1:50 long...I really don't see a solution.
Which would be the best way to compress it inside After Effects?

You need to use Adobe Media Encoder, comes with Creative Cloud (or you can purchase a native exporter for AE from aescripts.com). From AE, Export > Add to AME Queue. Make it as small as possible, like 1024 width, not 8000px width, then export out using H264. You'll need to play around with the settings to get the lowest possible file size while having acceptable quality (it'll be different based on YOUR content, someone else's usual settings doesn't mean it'll work the same for yours). It's probably a 7GB H264 right now because they just jacked up the settings all the way up to give you something closer to ProRes.
- pick the youtube 1080p or vimeo fullhd preset from the list in media encoderuan

Unless I'm really missing the point here. Just upload to Vimeo/Youtube and EMBED. File size will be irrelevant.
- < that's what I'm wondering if actually not the best option. still I told client he could compress it moreoey
- You'll have a lot more flexibility without a third party player. File size is relevent if you want to control the kind of quality your viewer receives.fyoucher1
- I use Vimeo on my site and I kinda regret implementing it b/c I can't control quality. When I have red colors (which don't compress well), I end up with crappy.fyoucher1

yo everybody!
I'm very thankful for your input you all, QBN'ers never fail to deliver good and practical advice when needed.
client will try to do as suggested here by several people:
8 bit
Handbrake
probably GIFvideo is not my expertise but if necessary I'll be working on the file and use Adobe Media Encoder as well.
cheers you all!
- oey, the gif was a terrible [brilliant] sick, sick joke - don't waste your time with that! fyoucher and akiersky have come through for you here.detritus
- ..I'm still wondering how on Earth a 1m50s video can ever weigh 7Gb after compression :\detritus
- well \I was wondering that with the gif too but we were in a meeting and i had to consider all options in the moment.oey
- i would someone make a gif out of a 7GB file?oey
- I don't know why does the video got that size, i didn't do it. it's all 3D rendered stuff and animations then put together in After Effects. No idea.oey
