this story of mexican bakers trapped in their bakery makes up for it

- It is Texas. What do you expect.severian
- what's wrong with gluten???!monospaced
- if you are allergic/intolerant - a whole lot of hurt!mugwart
- not sure why you brought it up since it's such an insanely low % of population that is allergic, and that's not related to veganism in any way whatsoevermonospaced

- Grab the Field Roast!see_bee
- Wasn't being serious mono. Its implying that vegans are fussy about foods no matter what the cost.mugwart

White House walks back promise about Trump
donating his ‘personal money’ to Harvey victims. On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that President Trump would donate $1 million of his “personal money” to Hurricane Harvey victims. But on Friday, she wasn’t so sure. Asked by a reporter if she knew whether Trump’s donation would be “coming from his own money or from the Trump Foundation,” Sanders dodged. “I haven’t had a chance to do that,” she said, suggesting she hadn’t yet had a chance to ask the president where the money would be coming from. During the campaign, reporting by the Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold and others demonstrated that Trump treated his foundation — which he hadn’t personally donated to since 2008 — like a personal expense.

this will lead to major ecological and health impacts.

Trump Says Hurricane Harvey Is Great For The Country To Watch, Tells Victims To Have A Good Time
As we all know, President Donald Trump’s verbal sentiments are direct and are often times cringeworthy. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s deadly wrath in Houston, Texas, the businessman continued his lack of empathy during his trip to the city.

was talking to a friend today who's parents live down there. They've been lucky that their house is on a bit of a rise and hasn't flooded like houses 4 doors down.
They've been told not to open their doors to anyone. that people will knock, claiming they need help, then pull out guns and steal stuff.
- Very interesting urban myths about people door to door stealing, everyone knows Texans are all armed so good luck to the thieves...robotron3k

Thought I'd put this here. Timeless piece.
Demonizing looters puts property above people
http://www.salon.com/2012/11/05/…"Following reports on the treatment of looters during Katrina, Rebecca Solnit noted that what gets called “looting” is often to her better characterized as “foraging or requisitioning.” Instead of joining Solnit in her reframing — which risks drawing problematic lines between “good looting” and “bad looting”– I’d simply argue that the demonization of looters has again and again illustrated where priorities lie during disasters (which, in turn, shows where priorities lie all the time). And I’d echo another of Solnit’s basic points on the issue: Media frenzy over looting “regularly justifies spending far too much energy and far too many resources on control — the American military calls it ‘security’ — rather than relief.”
- Defending criminals seems like a common theme for the communists.Hayoth
- The priorities of those that are looting for profit putting profit before people.Gnash
- foraging for food & water, etc, is a little different than looting goods for profit. the looters should be demonized and the military should protect property...Gnash

- Hard times does not give anyone the right to steal.imbecile

Current Mosquito situation in Port Lavaca, TX
When I said the mosquitoes were horrendous in Port Lavaca, this is what I was talking about. FYI, I borrowed this picture to illustrate what the little bastards are like at the coast. I couldn't stand still long enough to get a picture. We were all wearing T-Shirts.

Houston City Councilman Dave Martin, who represents hard-hit Kingwood, had a message for the public about the American Red Cross.
"I beg you not to send them a penny," he said at Wednesday's council meeting. "They are the most inept unorganized organization I've ever experienced."
