Any must-sees for a whistlestop 3-day stay?
where best to look for an airbnb?
Thanks.
- Continuity3
The only must-see I can think of is the watching the Toronto skyline vanish below the horizon whilst you're on the train going to Montreal instead.

Alternately, if you really must insist on going and staying in Toronto, you could always piss on Rob Ford's grave. He's buried at the Park Lawn Cemetary, section BB.
- Why not just tell people to piss on his 10 year old daughter and 8 year old son? Wtf is wrong with you?spot13
- Oh, that's right, you're the Ford fanboy.Continuity
- I would never advocate pissing on anyone’s grave. The comments really more about you.spot13
- Why post something so fucked up? Would you seriously piss on someone's grave?spot13
- You should know by now that I couldn't even give a fraction of a shit about your opinion on the topic of Rob Ford and his aftermath.Continuity
- Whoa. This got dark really fast.Gucci
- Hey spot maybe dont bring up child sex on a whim like that just because your feelings were hurt about a dead drug addict disgrace of a mayoreighteen

If you read anything about going to the islands: forget it, they're closed for the summer due to flooding.

for airbnb:
On subway line and/or downtown near sites: Annex, Kensignton Market, Queen West, Harbourfront/queens quay
bit more of a trek west: queen west west, Roncy, Junction
bit more of a trek East: Greektown, Corktown, Leslieville

and whatever you do, don't mention that you know Continuity. He got run outta a town a few years back and there's still people looking for him.

thanks for the replies - and the link to the other thread.
Going to do the CNT restaurant, so looking for good, cheap food options. Also interesting bars and any architectural recommendations. Will be staying near St Michaels Basilica / Cathedral.
- the tower's a bit of a dud, frankly. The food up there's not great and it costs a fortune for a family.
(pro tip, you can take the stairs for free!)Gnash - Pro Pro tip. Reserve a table in the restaurant and you can go up for free.Centigrade

When are you here? There's a massive food/art night market on at the Hearn Generating Station this weekend.
I live a block from St Michael's, unfortunately there's not a whole lot of food options in the area that aren't geared to tourists/mass market (mainly on Yonge St). St. Lawrence Market is just to the south; more options, but more mid-range in pricing. La Bettola di Terroni is good too.
And the islands have reopened! Be prepared for crazy long lines at the ferry terminal; consider just getting a water taxi ($10/adult, $5/kid; you can come back for free on the ferry).

- thanks. what's Carbon like? nearby, no?Fax_Benson
- If you like everything to taste smoked, Carbon is for you.
The night market has been shut down due to fire safety regulations.i_monk

Queen St West and Ossington was cool for a little independent shopping and food/bars.
This is a must too — http://www.bangbangicecream.com

If you like Mexican – Cocina Economica at Queen St. & Berkeley, about a 15 min walk SE from St. Michael’s.
If you like Japanese, there are a couple of izakayas fairly close by – Kinka and Zakkushi.
And while Queen West is great, Queen St. east of the DVP also has plenty of shops & restaurants worth checking out.

If you want cheap eats, grab a street dog. The quality is far better then you'd find in NYC or anywhere else.

I was just there for the first time about 3 weeks ago, as you may have read in the other thread.
The ethnic food looked amazing! I wish I could have tried more, but I was traveling with a couple of very picky eaters.
Also, the city is freakin' massive! I knew it was big, but I wasn't prepared to walk for miles and still be surrounded by high-rise buildings.
Buying beer was a bit of challenge, coming from what I'm used to in California. Only certain shops are allowed to sell alcohol, and they close early so plan accordingly.
We had an airbnb on the top floor of a high-rise apartment complex near the corner of King St. and Portland St. The highlight of the trip for me was sitting out on our balcony at night, having beers and just looking out at the city.
- to find beer punch LCBO or Beer Store in your maps app.Centigrade
- beer buying difficulties? disappoint. Thanks though, will keep in mind.Fax_Benson
- I went out at around 9pm or 10pm in search of beer. There wasn't anywhere super close and all of those LCBO places were closed.nocomply
- There are tons of bars, but I wanted to have a couple cold ones and just chill at our AirBnB. This would've been a non-issue at home. Call me culture shocked.nocomply
- Yeah, it took me three days. All the beer stores are underground at basement level too.Fax_Benson

Check out the Design Exchange if open, and if what they're showing interests you at all.
Summers in Toronto are just festival after festival, so no doubt you'll be able to see some good music and get some street food in.
There's an up and coming craft beer scene in Toronto - places like Bellwoods Brewery and Birreria Volo are highlights. There's also a ton of great places to eat, and if you're up for venturing just a little out of the city (still on transit) you can get great Chinese, Hakka, Sri Lankan, etc. Stay away from places claiming Southern BBQ or Tacos, they are all overpriced and not very good.
The best area to stay is really depends on what you like to do, but I'd look for something in the downtown core, the annex, cabbagetown or maybe even west queen west if you're only in town for a few days and want easy access to see some stuff.
Depending on when you're in town, I might be able to swing you tickets to a sporting event if that's your thing as the agency I'm at does a lot of work for MLSE. Feel free to hit me up through the profile.

Anyone hiring?

I bought a pen online from an art store in Toronto - It arrived really quickly.
I'm sure it's a really nice place.

any locals here have any experience with the printer, Astley Gilbert? client is recommending them
- no, but they look pretty huge_niko
- ya, that's what I'm worried about. I like a more collaborative approach with a printer and I get the sense they don't have time for that.Gnash
- who's your go-to right now?_niko
- Don't have a regular anymore -- mostly delivering PDFs. Last few I used Flash Reproductions -- they were good. And CJ Graphics when budget allowsGnash
- Lunar Caustic for letterpressGnash
- Kid Icarus for silk screenGnash
- Antsey Bookbinding for specialty/small run weird stuffGnash
- Wow quite the list, I like cj but yeah pricey_niko
- Know this response is late, but Andora, Flash, Standard Form. CJ is bloated price for no reason. If you need cheap and dirty, look up MGS.ben_
- Astley Gilbert is great for large format though.ben_
- ^ cheers. project still in the works :) right abut cj, but easyGnash
- Try Andora, easier, cheaper, better. Stan's fucking rad.ben_
- I've used them quite a bit over the years... Not sure if Tom George is still one of their printer/sales guys, but if he is, deal with him... such an awesome guyexador1
