Peoples
So I am redoing my resume.
I'm a Brit, working for myself and have been in the US for 5 years.
Just wondering how my US counterparts 'do it'.
Gonna dip my toe back in the agency world and just wondered if there are any 'must' things I should be doing...
I look forward to your sensible advice...
Thanks

After having an oversimplified resume, I spoke with some headhunters and hiring managers and the only thing they told me is to assume that a non-creative is reading your resume. Basically to give details on what you worked on and what you did at each spot. It actually helped me create my new resume and i have been getting way more attention with it.
- I have a minimal resume, just enough good stuff to get them to invite you in and from there you seal the deal. keep it simple and clean.robotron3k
- Mine was way too minimal. I wrote it so only a designer type would understand it. Now anyone can get what I do.capn_ron
- ron you are withholding information not sure if its too late but give it a shot http://www.qbn.com/t…yurimon
- Also, in US we don't do CVs, so make it one page, have your experience ladder up to show your career growth and don't add a picture, only Europe is image biasrobotron3k

- how many pages is it now?Gnash
- where you worked and what you achieved - give examples.trooperbill
- How many pages Capn Ron? Any chance you would shrare how you broke it down please? Weird, but I actually trust you guys...nylon
- The old standard was one page or bust, so I'm curious to hear how this shook out. I'm really not a fan of infographic resumes which seemed to be everywhere.Gucci
- It is still only one page resume. But I took my last 3 jobs and really broke down exactly what I did. Short versions, but informative.capn_ron
- Lol at a "non creative".cannonball1978

So how many pages would you go for?
I feel like I have a lot to say from a personal statement point of view...
- My CV is current three pages spanning over 15 years of career, but German employers tend to demand quite detailed application documents.Continuity
- 'My CV is currently three pages', ffs.Continuity

- They crap full stop - anyone who uses these and gives themself a full rating in any category is patently talking shit.
Now, a pie chart? Prrrrhaps. But no.detritus - Christ, I thought I used to be quite good at English, which I really should be after nearly 40 years practice.detritus

- Actually a friend that's very good with UX told me this. It's simple: it reads: "I'm NOT THAT GOOD at blah blah..."maquito

nylon, email me and I'll send you mine. Just so you can see what I'm talking about. It is still only one page, but it has a bit more information for potential employers to really understand what I did when they look at my portfolio.
I think one page is still the max that I would ever want to have for my resume, but having detailed information ensures people know what you are capable of.

OK...so after 23 years of working for myself, I'm thinking about joining the workforce. Just tiring of the grind.
I have no idea what to include in my CV. I used to work corporate, but that's a LONG time ago now. How much of my career do I include? What is relevant? Would any employer give a stuff that I was national operations manager for a company back in 1990?
Maybe I should just mow lawns!
- Just the stuff relevant for what you want to be doing. Gaps can be explained in the interview, if they think it matters.i_monk
