I've been doing this for over a year (about 25 hours float time)—so amazing.
It's an eye-opening experience, especially for creatives. The more you go, the easier it is to get into a deep meditative state and you just completely let go. Think about all your design problems, life, whatever enters your head, there's nowhere to run. Plus, you're weightless and you feel like you're floating in space. I've gone in sober, but I'd recommend getting a little irie to really relax and get into the zone.
- thanks. i mention the weed thing cuz I believe I have a bit too much the in my brain. was on some ringing thought loops for an extended period. moderation..bezoar

- "creatives", I hate that term.bainbridge
- I hate when people say, "I hate that term", sounds like a bitch.davey_g
- couldnt you just meditate?yurimon
- it is meditation, yuri.scarabin
- i know what you are saying but real meditation has posture, not lying down.yurimon
- pull your head out of your ass, man. there are different ways to meditate.scarabin
- there is traditional way and some combinations of such TM. however some people confuse relaxation as meditation. its like saying jumping jax is yoga.yurimon
- "real meditation" is whatever works for the individual. saying someone's practice is wrong because it's non-traditional is ignorant.scarabin
- when i lived at a zen monastery we meditated while walking, sitting, working... to say floating is somehow not a valid practice is absurdscarabin
- walking, working etc. could be meditative yes. in that sense you are correct, but meditation is specific. did you follow a technique?yurimon
- yes, many techniques. in the end what your body is doing doesn't matter, it's what happens internally. floating can remove external stimuliscarabin
- , removing distractions and make the practice more powerful.scarabin
- you're suggesting that a person with a back injury who cannot sit is incapable of meditation. you are not your body.scarabin
- I think there is some advantage in specific techniques which in traditional circles has posture and form for a reason. some people confuse relaxation as meditatyurimon
- however just removing external distractions is not enough if the mind wonders grasshopper.yurimon
- have you ever experienced Samadhi during meditation?yurimon
- nobody said floating was the entire practice, yuri. i said it can remove distractions and make it more powerful.scarabin
- however, conscious relaxation is a form of meditation and i would argue that most people (if not all) entering these tanks are practicing some kind of that.scarabin
- yes, i havescarabin
- it's almost unavoidable when you've been doing 9 hours of zazen a day for two straight weeksscarabin

this movie should answer any questions you have:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080…
A Harvard scientist conducts experiments on himself with a hallucinatory drug and an isolation chamber that may be causing him to regress genetically.- AND bangs the hell outta the chickbezoar
- I didn't click, is it Altered States?jaylarson
- ^ yes, Altered StatesGnash
- I recently rewatched that, and boy is that movie stupid. Acid + Isolation tanks = Caveman Rampage?garbage
- The imagery is fantastic though.garbage
- it was an interesting idea - that hidden in our genes is our entire evolutionary history. that these ancient genes can be coaxed to express themselvesGnash

- I'm going to try this!utopian

I've always wondered about these too. Like if you float for too long will you be able to predict future crime like a precog?

“We had a Zen master who visited my lab once,” says Suedfeld, “and he asked to go in the tank for an hour. Most of his life he had meditated every day for four or five hours or more. And he thought the depth of meditation he reached in the tank was on par with a level he reached maybe once a year in his normal meditation environment—which was not exactly the middle of Times Square. He was amazed.”
- this zen master was lying, according to yurimon, since you can't meditate unless you're sitting upscarabin
- Good article. I've tried meditation several times but rarely had any indication that I'm reaching mindfulness. Hoping this will accelerate the progress.bezoar
- lol scarbsutopian
- You want to meditation battle me broh? in the middle of manhattan, no tank.yurimon
- he said "meditative" which is the right context.yurimon
- um, no he didn't. that's not even a relevant point, anyway.scarabin
- but whatever man, i was trying to teach you something. if you can only see it as a battle, go on without me. i ain't got time for thatscarabin
- I get what you were saying. I have learned. My point was only that in traditional or ancient master circles. meditation was specific to a posture sitting downyurimon
- in lotus position for energy flow purposes. not saying this is wrong, but expressed from that point of view.yurimon
- the battle part, I was just being kungfuish reminiscent of the saturday 3pm kungfu flicks on tv.yurimon
- Stop restricting yourself with your beliefs yurimon. As long as the spine is straight...set
- its not mine this is the old masters.yurimon
- that's one technique, yes. not all methods involve that "energy flow" shitscarabin
- you're under the mistaken impression that all "ancient masters" did it the same. techniques were just as varied thousands of years ago as they are today.scarabin
- look up kinhin, for instance. a very ancient practice in which you meditate standing upscarabin
- Yurimon you've really shown your narrow mindedness and lack of understanding hereset
- Don't pigeon home yourself with your beliefsset
- Pigeon hole*set
- Basically you need to be more open minded and less rigid with your belief systemset
- dude its not me talk to the ancient masters who perfected this shit. mkay...yurimon
- https://lsatmax.com/…yurimon
- except you're wrong about the "ancient masters". which is okay. just update your definition. no biggie.scarabin
