Can anyone point me in the right direction to a tutorial(s) on how to achieve an effect like this in AE, I know it's the write on effect for the reveal but not sure how to get the color shifts

I'll preface this with "I have no idea", but my guess would be just animate the text, duplicate for number of colors, change the text colors, stagger them to play so it looks like several colors
The last layer will be the final color and naturally cover up the previous layers as it 'writes'

reveal:
stroke effect on solid with keys on end property used as mask for the logo.color:
not sure, you could animate some ramps / colors on the logo. time synched with the reveal it would produce the effect.- <<<<<<<<<<<< Def this to do the write on. Then you just duplicate the layer, change color, and offset the start for each layer sequentiallyfyoucher1

maybe by superposing the same text animation with different brightness' or colors

this is achieved by making multiple layers of the reveal and then delaying 1 frame for each color
there are no shifts in color, just diferent colors on top of each other revealing the same logo with a delayed keyframe

thank you all!

I set up a source file for this. feel was write. It has to be separate layers. At first I tried it with multiple effects on one layer but the effects overwrote themselves. I put in expressions for the masks, valueAtTime for the delay and an expression slider to have the delay decrease over time. You'll see when you open it.
Keep in mind the font used in the original post was a custom that used strokes and not outlines of a font. So that left side of the M is one stroke, not a slanty rectangle. I hope that makes sense.
- this is amazing. how do i transfer that smoothness to mine? I did ease in/out but it doesn't flow like yoursjuanluisgarcia
- There are two factors. One is the basic easing in the Blue layer on bottom that I used graph editor to get a very slow ease at the end.CyBrainX
- Then, I used the expression slider in the blue layer (theDelay) to set the delay between layers. I set it to decrease over time.CyBrainX

It's a lovely effect. I really want to get back into AE.
I did the basics a few years ago but would love to learn more.
What't the best online resources?- Lynda for tutorials, videocopilot.net for more advanced tutorials, motionographers for news and behance for inspirationCyBrainX
- cool - thanks.fadein11
- CyBrainX, got any good resource for expressions to share? You used some in your example above.uan
- I get the basic principle of expressions, but my knowledge is puzzled together from different places. Still looking for THE expressions tutorial.uan
- Honestly, I don't know any one place other than YouTube and I just search After Effects Expression <whatever I want to know>CyBrainX
- mograph.net is a good forum source, helpful folk thereformed

here are my results
- Nice work. A little slower, just perhaps?MrT
- That's how it's supposed to look when the parts of the letters are just strokes, not fills.
I would slow it down and get some easing in there too.CyBrainX - thanks for the feedback!juanluisgarcia
