Not feeling it.

Big fan of Donnie Yen. Mixing up a lil star wars and kung fu could be fun.

I think Disney will let the directors have more freedom with the spin offs, unlike VII - IX - some will be good, some bad I reckon especially the more they do. But I am stating the obvious. The premise of this one is highly appealing. We will see and not too long to wait!

I dont have any opinion on it right now. Havent seen anything yet. I dont think theres any real trailers out. Apparently its a heist/war movie, inspired by movies like Saving Private Ryan, Hunt for Red October, Red Dawn, but the guy directing it has done a couple crappy movies and not a whole lot else, so just waiting to see how it turns out. Not overly hyped.
- it's all about the Botham spies mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. A load of leaked production stills came out this week.
It sounds interesting butfadein11 - yes keeping expectations low on all SW movies now.fadein11
- Gareth Edwards is a pretty good director i think...Monsters was amazing...sure, it was slow and pensive, but i thought it was great...exador1
- on behalf of the entire thread - thank you for not having an opinion.jtb26

My only issue from the little I can see is that it appears to be all about humans.
Star Wars is all about the aliens and robots too, yo.

I don't like the fact the fashion is so familiar and contemporary.
I want Science Fiction. Not a wardrobe lineup that looks like they went to the Gap last year.- barbarellazenmasterfoo
- agree:
http://2.bp.blogspot…_niko - Then maybe a different franchise is for you. They've always been like this in Star Wars.monospaced
- They were paralleling A New Hope. I realize they had to but the entire premise of this movie was anchored to it.CyBrainX

heard some vague but fun stuff from people working on it. Sounds like it's going to be great. And kinda dark.

I love the idea of this flick. This one and Boba Fetts story are the 2 that sound the coolest.
You know its gonna be sick and people are gonna die, lots of them.
Also, its the fucking first Mexican in the damn star wars series, about fuckin time. Knowing hollywood they'll say he's cuban or they make him talk like a Chihuahua , his ship will probably be low rider style, and he'll smoke weed.*
*Bitter much?

- Death start got built. They failed.pango
- wait, no man. it was already being built, they didn't fail because they got the plans back to the rebels. Now, I am hoping they all die... because thats what...sofakingback

Reshoots... never a good sign but then again with Disney at the helm probably trying to make it more cuddly epVII'ish...
- Old news already! It was a little too dark so they wanted to add some levity and make it "4 quadrant" friendly.ETM
- old news lol - news broke 3 days ago... did they not sign the script off?fadein11
- 24-hour news cycle and all.ETM
- And what does signing off on a script have to do with it? A script is such a basic and fluid framework.ETM
- Look at Winter Soldier and Civil War to see how much the tone is set by a director, DP etc.ETM
- haha - and there lies the problem - "a script is such a basic and fluid structure" - so funny was saying this was a majot issue in cinema today - too muchfadein11
- importance placed on style and concept without the necessary foundations in place - i.e. a kick ass script. So many filmmakers would despise you for thatfadein11
- comment - a script should never affect the tone and style of a film (although great screenwriters like Schrader etc. gave the director the cues)... totallyfadein11
- disagree.fadein11
- To dark? FFS it's Star WARS!!IRNlun6
- This happens all the time. Script is not/never signed off on. Surprised this movie ever happened. Love Garth Edwards, his films are a joy to work on.mugwart
- @fadein11 - you actually KNOW any Hollywood film makers? Just curious since you seem to know what they think.ETM
- And without speaking what filmmakers think, a director's take on the material is a huge influence on the final product... obviously. They do more than sayETM
- "stand over there" or "with more emotion".ETM
- But I would digress to the few here who actually work in, or on the edge of the film industry.ETM
- eh? that's what I said. please look at all the classic films in the history of cinema - it was on the page before anyone arrived on set. Fact.fadein11
- At what point did I diminish the importance of the director? The good ones write as well and the rest = auteur. Todays mainstream film is delivered by committefadein11
- exactly like the worst design projects. need more auteurs given free reign and directors who can write! Pls don't ask me who I know in the industryfadein11
- what I am saying is obvious. I don't need to live in LA to know 90% of mainstream cinema is shit.fadein11

Wow! Easily the best trailer yet.
