"While Kepler-452b is larger than Earth, its 385-day orbit is only 5 percent longer. The planet is 5 percent farther from its parent star Kepler-452 than Earth is from the Sun. Kepler-452 is 6 billion years old, 1.5 billion years older than our sun, has the same temperature, and is 20 percent brighter and has a diameter 10 percent larger."
In other words. This fucking planet has been sitting in the goldilocks zone for 1.5bn years longer than ours and potentially has water, and PERHAPS photosynthesis. :O
This was announced today.

That's cool and all but the thing it's 1400 light years away :')
- So? Look up EmDrive.rabbit
- They say within a generation we could travel there ;)rabbit
- http://www.ibtimes.c…rabbit
- EmDrive hasn't been proved yet and I don't think it can go superluminalernexbcn
- https://en.wikipedia…ernexbcn
- Even if you manage to accelerate to 99% SOL it will take more than 1400 years to get thereernexbcn
- they talk of C x anything. SOL many times over might be possible. If it works.rabbit
- according to NASA it's a dream
http://www.nasa.gov/…ernexbcn - https://en.wikipedia… yea exactly!!!rabbit
- "for the near future, warp drive remains a dream" - NASAernexbcn
- Right, cool. I thought they were still testing it. Sorry I get ahead of myself at times.rabbit
- that doesn't invalidate sending a ship with human embryos that get raised by robots once the time it's right, that shit cray but doableernexbcn
- Still, Earth 2.0 is kinda cool. :Prabbit
- They say this is the closest planet to earth they have ever found. Pretty amazing stuff. I mean only announced today.rabbit

This is very exciting! I am of course dreaming like everyone else here that maybe, in our lifetime, we'll be able to high five some milky way neighbors at an intergalactic kegger 'n bbq.
On that note, do you think that given what NASA had announced yesterday that there's any chance that Bereet lives on Kepler-452b?
- Who is Beeret? lol.rabbit
- Starlord's previous girlfriend of courseprophetone

"The researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre have successfully tested the Electromagnetic (EM) propulsion drive in vacuum conditions. The thrust measurements of this EM propulsion drive defy the classical physics laws of the conservation of momentum."
- "...you would reach to Mars in 70 days if you sit inside an EM propelled spaceship."dirtydesign
- Isn't this the type of tech the nazis were working on, 60 years ago? You know, the famous nazi saucer...Maaku
- Nomonospaced
- lol at mono as always. The answer is yes.********
- oh really?monospaced
- Google nazi bell********
- I looked into that, set. It would make a great movie plot maybe, but at this point there's no produceable evidence for any of it. It's all just allegations. :/monospaced
- It's all based on transcripts from an interrogation 60+ years ago of a Nazi soldier. Transcripts that at this point nobody has every seen except him.monospaced
- Declassified documents outline it. Research again, monoscept..********

Great, another planet for humans to fuck up.
- nopemonospaced
- yuputopian
- It will be 1000s of years before humans ever get there.CygnusZero4
- 1000s, lol. We could potentially get there in 50 years. Who knows where technology will go. Look how far we've come in the last 50.********
- you think we'll figure out how to travel through space faster than the speed of light within the next couple of years, set?monospaced
- I didn't say a couple. I said *potentially* in 50 years. Did you skip that bit?********
- Not at all. Only that we would have to figure it out now in order to travel at 20x speed of light and make the trip within 50 years. Simple maths.monospaced
- tech is 100 to 150 years ahead of what you get in the stores. or military.yurimon
- mono with his one track mind, poor little chap.********
- what are you on about? I was only saying that it's extremely unlikely, almost impossible, to get there within 50 years, which you statedmonospaced
- that's the track your'e on, no? why are you so mean?monospaced

our own galaxy, a bigger one, hosts about 300 billion stars. there are maybe one hundred billions of galaxies in the observable universe. the universe is pretty homogenous, meaning wherever you are / look, it’s the same.
there are 8 planets revolving around our own star, the sun. most of them have moons. we can’t see other planets and moons very far away because they don’t emit any light.
the notion that there is no "life" (what’s the definition anyway) out there, and humans are the spicial snowflakes of the universe, seems pretty medieval to me – like thinking the sun revolves around the earth.

imagine if a spaceship full of cryogenically frozen bodies of an alien race, 1,400 years old, showed up outside earth or crash landed ready to de-thaw. what do you think we would do with them?
- we would Roswell those sun-a-bitchesmoldero

- 1,400 years is a blink of an eye. Super-intelligent life may have existed millions of years ago in other parts of the vast universe.iCanHazQBN
- And I think the question is... "what they do with us?"iCanHazQBN
