I quite liked this; massive fan of Season 1 and this has all the makings of an excellent, albeit quite different (a good thing!) take on the TRUE DETECTIVE series.
Same style, moodiness, colouring even that made me feel right at home. A touch busy right out of the gates but it all made sense once the final scene panned out and the credits rolled.
I'm in (like sin).
*thumbsup*
- Agreed. Liked it. And they did try to pack too much in show. Thus the "forced" feel.wagshaft

it was dope, dirty, messy. don't mess with velcoro's lebrons bro.

but, i HATE the theme song. why didn't they use the haunting trailer tune vis a vis the meth folk singer skirt in the bar?
- Talk to T Bone Burnett -> http://www.tboneburn… he's in charge of said soundtrack. Love hime or hate him, it's Leonard Cohen...ideaist

just watched it then..
i think its going to be hard to live up to season 1..
the water mark was set so high..the first episode was good.. just maybe felt it was a bit too spread out

I really liked it.
TV critics have zero credibility.

The Velcoro story/character is solid. Am very intrigued by what his arc may hold. I'm skeptical of the other two protagonists. The build/background of Bezzerides was too convenient and forced, and Woodrugh falls straight into a the tortured war vet stereotype.
Vaughn was better than I expected. I could do with out his wife character. Not sure what she's adding to his character other than that she is a symbol of him going straight... starting a family/legit business. I expect she'll be a foil in his plans.

rock salt
also, actors aren't awful, they're just in mismatched roles. also, the writing this time around is sub-par, and the lack of artistry in the cinematography is really hurting it as a prestige name.
this isn't awful in a world where season 1 doesn't exist but, this is still associated with / trying to be a certain thing more than it actually is.

Well, episode 4 of last season was epic because of the single-cut drug house scene, and season 2 delivers with an even more fucking epic scene. It's not single cut, but it is fucking crazy anyway. Watch it asap.
- that scene was great but this season is soooo slow and the dialogue so fucking pretentious.Ramanisky2
- That shootout was fucking sweet.DRIFTMONKEY
- things are coming together, they all get pegged down a notch and they all revolt to solve the crime or trying to resolve their personal inner demons2002

The directing style of the show seems like it is paying tribute a bit to David Lynch this season with all the slow, stilted dialogue set to ominous music. The problem is it's a fine line and this style can come across as pretentious if not done exactly right. I think that's why so many people are saying the acting is bad.

writing is solid this season.
but i'm not a huge fan of the characters, storyline, location this time around.
will see it through anyway.

i think it would have been hard to top the first season, especially given the whole retelling the story/interview aspect.. which in my opinion was some of the best parts.
the new season is good, its bit of a cluster fuck tho sometimes and seems like they are trying too many ideas out at the same time.
this weeks episode was all a bit much also.. the shoot out at the end, no one, not even gacked out tweaker cholo's with endless supply of bullets would just randomly keep shooting until they are killed..
it was just over the top.
- good call. retelling the story, seeing the characters now and then was best part.dirtydesign

It's been pretty good so far, but I know what people are saying with it's somewhat cliche/pretentious dialogue. Is there anybody in this season who is not fucked in someway or another though? If it's all about redemption then there's a serious amount of sorting out to get through in the coming weeks.

yo, Am I the only one watching this show without understanding what the fuck is going on?

- We couldn't work out why they went to the shootout with the mexicans. Something to do with a watch?HAYZ1LLLA
