Taking the Mrs to Paris next month, but I've never been myself. Where are the best places to stay?
Not massively interested in doing the tourist-ey stuff, woul like to be walking distance from your typical charming areas to wander around in, lots of nice bars and restaurants, markets etc. Planning to sit around drinking wine, eating good food and taking in the ambience of Paris...
Where should we stay?

Drinking wine, eating good food... in Paris? Go to Basque Country or Landes for this

I went recently and stayed in Bastille area - just north of Ledru Rollin metro to be precise. Really good area for up-and-coming chefs opening small, good value restaurants.
Really good market at Bastille that runs down to the river. Easy walk in to the centre / river / cultural spots. Lots of good bars too.
Maybe not as typically Parisian as west Paris / Left Bank but lots going on and great location.
Get an apartment rather than a hotel.

A more constructive answer ;)
For eating, have a look at Chez L’Ami Jean and Le Chateaubriand, this second obe a bit expensive imho, but a nice place
Enjoy
