I have all of the tools I need. Can anyone point me to a 101?
I have to Animate a clients logo at the introduction for their video (the videographer will do the implementation).
Is the animation this something I can send to them as a gif? What format does it have to be in? Of course I could look all this up but wanted to hear from the experts here; haven't done animation since 2004 (using Flash, or imageready)

Format - The final format depends on usage. What is the usage? H.264 is always a safe bet.

Do a visualisation and let the expert do it.

a lossless format would be better than h.264, like prores (mac) or png-sequence (win).

lossless with alpha, from the sounds of this so far, best to just hire someone and not risk loosing a client.

this wasn't even part of the project.
i will figure it out though. i've yet to let a client down.thanks gang.

Lossless is best, skip compression and let the videographer deal with it.
"I have to animate a logo..." that's pretty ambiguous. What do you have to animate? Fade in? Spinning? Masking?? 3D?
You should be getting client approvals on all the previz comps. If you haven't, then I'll assume there is no budget and you are just accommodating the client. If that's the case, then fading is fine (keeps it clean and minimal, better than doing something poorly and full of cheese).
But if that's the case, the videographer can do it in a few minutes while he's editing the video, just give him some direction (size, etc.). Make some mockups and call it a day.
