i'm not sure about the open membership...
I like how we almost know each other in here. Just imagine truck loads of newbies arriving each week... the place will become unpersonal veru quickly.
- Yeah fuck those newbies.the_reverend
- I agree with that. Open membership would really change our nice, little community.grotesk_neue

we have our inside jokes and all in here. newbies will dont get them. And open membership means back to spam fury.
- benfal990
it could be invite only. Like each QBNers can invite a max of 5 persons each year.
- benfal990
I dont know if someone already ask for this, but post EDIT and DELETE option would be much appreciated.
- nomonospaced
- why?benfal99
- I love that you can't delete or edit. It's like real life -- once you say something, you can't take it back.Krassy
- yeaaahhh..benfal99
- because it would be mayhem... you could start a huge reaction and then change the comment? yeah rightmonospaced
- Well, a lot of sites will let you edit your comment for only a few minutes after to catch a typo or broken link etc.ETM
- That might work. Brief window to fix your mistake, but cant change anything later.ETM
- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
There wouldn't be a benfal of the day thread otherwise.ORAZAL - lol ;-)benfal99

I'd like to me a Moderator on this new site. How do I apply?
- benfal990
And if we have MODS, I think we should have some sort of MODS rotation. Like for 6 months its a squad of 6-7 persons and we select 6-7 new one every 6 months.
Being a permanant MOD can become some sort of a power trip for certain person.

it would be cool if, when you post a topic and it's similar to one that already exists, that it would pre-timeline you with suggestions for existing threads
- Like predictive search when the user is entering a title.jtb26

Whoa, nice! Had no idea what this thread was about the past couple of days but finally took a look.
As I mentioned in the larger Responsive QBN thread, I'm a UX architect / interaction designer and would be more than happy to help out with this. I think I'd be willing to test and log issues in a prototype or something, or weigh in on how it's organized.
Set - I think I've said this before, but the design is so nice, I've always seen this more as something that you could sell or give to others to use. Like, if this could be a deployable platform for people to create a forum around. Such a massively better platform design than something like VBulletin.

you can do edit, just use a history feature to show previous edits.

So... is this actually in the works or just a concept still?

I'm pro–open membership. PublicVoice 2.0 might encourage some actual design / industry discussion and new members would make things interesting.
I understand not wanting to open the gates to noobs / spammers but there's ways around this.
An invite system is one way. Forcing new users to apply via portfolio / written submission (like some private torrent clubs) is another.
P.S. The redesign is really nice, UX wise it's almost perfect. Totally agree you could shop this around as an improved VBulletin. My only criticism would be that it's a little uncharismatic for a design forum. I realise it's still early days so your priorities lie with site structure / functionality (and you've done a superb job) but if it launches publicly it would need stronger branding to be successful.
If I was unacquainted with QBN or the personal jokes I probably wouldn't even know it was a design forum, so it probably wouldn't hurt to make it look like one.
- I hate the idea of a hyper active forum full of newbs. Invite is the way to go.inteliboy
- In the other thread, didn't we discuss applying for membership, filling out a survey of some kind?mg33
- I don't like design for the sake of designset
- Meaning I think the threads are key, no point designing just to make it look pretty, imo. I hear you though.set
