Don't waste your money... or if you do get this stuff second hand. Inevitably kids will like the box more than the toy it contains. They reject all form of educational toy's and try eat the dangerous packaging.
OK joking aside, kids don't really get any value out of these things until they are 4+ in my experience (I have 3). Just let them be babies and explore. Tupperware is always a hit! Don't worry about keeping up with the super-parent crowd... it's a waste - but they money into a college fund.

We are buying a few things from Craigslist - already gotten a stroller and car seat and good condition / good price.

Realizing my answer may have sounded cynical... but since this is for first you are obviously very excited. Some Essentials: Diaper Genie so your house doesn't stink, Angel Care so you can sleep a little easier, a good blender, a good play mat, a ton of new born diapers (8-10 a day), hand sanitizer, nice pictures, mobile or other distracting thing near the Chang table to keep baby occupied will you change them.

get this now while you can for such a great price... it might be 6-10 months before your kid enjoys them, but our son was obsessed and still watches them at 3.5 years old.... incredible learning tool.

It's funny how few decisions we've made so far about parenting that we are really steadfast in at this point, except for that any clothing given to us as a gift that says "princess" or "diva" is going in the fucking trash can.
- anyone referring to their daughter as princess i want to choke out.sea_sea

I know it's Ikea, but our 3m old loves this, and it doesn't look like arse like the gyms they sell at baby stores:
