This is a great Frontline episode about the recent history of US involvement in Syria, including the events leading up to the rise of ISIS.

I can't pretend to know enough about it to say whether this is on the money or not, but it seems to make a reasonable point.

- Good read. France is surely playing into their hands to declare war so readily. Exactly the reaction they must have expected.sarahfailin
- France didn't really have a choice, it's what angry people will demand. If they actually do anything differently remains to be seen.formed

I've been using this video to explain to my daughter the problems in the Middle East. It's a basic and quick rundown of the history and the major players that have helped to create the current situation. We have watched it together a few times since he speaks very fast. It may not be perfect but at least it explains things chronologically.
Well made imo, sorry I only know of a Spanish version w/ English subtitles.

- Getting a little bored with these "truth telling" comments. Yes let's not be PC but the reality is that the majority of Muslims don't even live in the Middleyuekit
- East, are a completely different culture than Iraq and Syria and probably not too aware of all these events.yuekit
- Why not just say Sunni Wahhabist militants instead of Muslim?yuekit

Watched this doc by Al Jazeera the other day. It does a good job explaining how the U.S. helped create ISIS by grouping radical militants together in prisons in Iraq. Apparently the same thing happens in France where the prison population is 70% Muslim.

We keep hearing the same media buzzwords...
Protecting our interests
Bringing democracy
Stabilising the region
These things take time
Deep network of terrorist organisations
Radical IslamYet if you bring it right down to basics, the political elite of Syria and the middle east in general ride roughshod over the ordinary working people. This whole conflict started over water.
Asshat made sure his land owning cronies got it all and the local farmers protested because they lost their livelihoods. The Iron fisted response has led to civicl war. The sectarianism just so happens to underline the socio economic situation.
What did the US do, give them weapons because regime change suits their agenda. Domination of energy markets.
Because If they'd actually wanted to do something for the people, they'd have given them jobs instead.

- I would like to remind you that "asshat" was america's boy when he was arboring american black sites, but it's ok , he was good thenGeorgesII
- btw this whole conflict didn't start over water, it's purported as the cause, but water didn't send weapons to the rebels to stage an uprising..GeorgesII

Russia's presence has shown NATO and regional allies undeniably supporting, training, and financing radical jihadis to overthrow Assad. As hard as NATO and it's allies try to project a unified front to this conflict, Russia's involvement may also be exposing internal conflicts within NATO in regards to the strategy being carried out.
I don't believe there is 100% internal consensus in supporting CIA dirty wars. Those who internally opposed may have been out numbered and if so, Russian involvement may have changed that dynamic for now.
- Plenty of countries opted out of involvement in Afgham post 9/11, NATO is rarely unified.fadein11

You have to give it to the US, they know how to win a propaganda war,
not even a week after the bad bear started bombing them,
an isis representative comes out and says the US took out the organisation number 2,now how isis know the bomb that landed on him was from the Us is another questions,
even cnn is doubting this claim, cause they had already killed him before, but the us is damm sure it's him though!!
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/2…
word of advice, if you ever get involve in a Te'rrist organisation always aim to the first or third position and stick to it, no moving up the ladder for you mate, they always take out the number 2,
you have to give it to the onion though, they are always on point
http://www.theonion.com/article/…- I'm reading this:
IS spokesman Abu Mohamed Adnani said in an audio record published on jihadist websites. “I will not mourn him... he whose only wish wasuan - to die in the name of Allah ... he has raised men and left behind heroes who, God willing, are yet to harm America,” he added.uan
- the news is only the confirmation by IS, Qurashi, was announced dead by the US near the city of Mosul on August 18.uan
- and I read this as IS propaganda.uan
- uan, have you ever heard of rita katz, she's the only source of isis torture video, same person that was behind all the alqaeda videos, googleGeorgesII
- SITE Intelligence Group ad, 100% of the isis video releases or speech comes from her company: http://www.ynetnews.…GeorgesII
- no, I didn't know about SITE. But of course I suspect IS' strings to be pulled from somewhere else. they rose to fast and to evil to be a legit movement.uan

It's a bit long, and I'll warn that there's some triggers words like climate change is not man made, but if you could look past some of that, this is a really interesting narrative of what is happening in the ME and the world at large. Also touches on why so many powerful people are becoming more vocal on the threat of AI.
- ... and I mean more David Ickes' narrative, not pill peddling Alex Jones.IRNlun6
