the Aesthetic Brain takes readers on an exciting journey through the world of beauty, pleasure, and art. Using the latest advances in neuroscience and evolutionary psychology, Anjan Chatterjee investigates how an aesthetic sense is etched into our minds, and explains why artistic concerns feature centrally in our lives. Along the way, Chatterjee addresses such fundamental questions as: What is beauty? Is it universal? How is beauty related to pleasure? What is art? Should art be beautiful? Do we have an instinct for art?

“A History of Heavy Metal”, by Andrew Oneill.
I was hesitant before starting this book cause I didn’t know the writer. Watched a couple of stand-up monologues and decided to give it a try.Really fun read. Addictive. Hilarious stories and a nice hook all along. Not to be taken very seriously, but definitely worth many good laughs. Reading time: 1 week.

- Design question ...
When centering a type block on a cover like this, do you centre on total width, or visual centre to spine fold line?Gnash - I would’ve centered to fold line. That “margin” between fold line and spine is neutral imo. Thanks, now I hate it.maquito
- HahaGnash
- Fold line unless nobody is going to bring it up.garbage

The Culture series

(really hope we will get this into a film/series in the future, as this universe is fascinating - Star Trek comes close, but not close enough)
- Selfish cunt died too soon.
I think Amazon have the rights and are making a series, no?Nairn - Altho when I read the Hydrogen Sonata last year (after having been an IMB fan for decades) I felt I'd read much of it before. Not bad, just more of the sameNairn
- I'm now wondering whether Bezos got the rights to make a TV series on the Culture as a billionnaire fuck you to Musk.Nairn
- For others, more info on the Culture itself as an advanced SF society: https://en.wikipedia…grafician
- I'd love to see the culture on the screen.thumb_screws

Design standards manuals : their meaning and use for federal designers by Bruce Blackburn
Now I know where Apple got inspired for their Garamond logo.
Still reading it, it's about the problem-solving process they went through designing the identities, explains all the steps and decisions in detail: logos, naming, fonts, costs... .

- Although I agree, some books are best read in your youth, this one is borderline. It certainly isn't The Alchemist by a far cry.canoe
