I love it here and plan to never leave. However, my gf and I don't plan on having children and don't have the urge to buy a house and live in the burbs. I grew up that way and it's out of my system.

i think it all depends on what makes you happy. i'm looking forward to moving to new york next year, but when i was 22 i turned down a job there because it just wasn't right for me at the time. (now 31.)
but i mean, if you want space, or something other than anonymity, it's probably not the place for you. then again, i'm coming at this as an outsider, but i dunno. aren't new yorkers generally unhappy anyway?
you could probably get a survey of how happy residents of arizona or florida are, but would you trust that shit?

I'm moving back to NJ to buy a house simply b/c I cannot afford property in NYC or surrounding burroughs and those available are shit. Also, the sales tax is a killer not to mention city/state tax. Pinkfloyd mentioned how difficult it is to try and go to movies, grocery shopping, or any other activity - it's just a pain it the ass. And yes, the produce and food in general is typically expired or of a lower quality. Most stores/bodegas will try to charge me more and more $ for the same product if I happen to frequent more than once in a week. Fuck this...
Most transplants are so mesmerized by the tall buildings that they cannot get out of the fucking way or off their cell phones and they are the ones paying extra for property and good causing all the prices to go up. I have a fantastic job but I'm moving to Jersey and I'll take the bus for 1 hour into the city, it takes me close to 45min anyway to take the train in from Brooklyn so why the fuck not.
I'll make my money here and go home where there are trees, politeness, less stress, and more honest people.
- totally, when I am ready for a real house, I'm heading outta manhattanmonospaced

I've been here already, all I say is that the first two months I hated this place, now I'm starting to enjoy it more.

"I feel like older people are more active in cities. In the suburbs, they stay in their culdesacs and never go anywhere."
freedom
That is true, there's a lot of heavy folks around the suburbs. You rarely see that in NYC. When I see tourists, their sizes are disgusting.
NYC has a lot of hot women. They tan right, exercise and wax their bushes to perfection. Just put a condom on.
- Sleep around. Hard to settle down when you're partying and working all the time.freedom

And.........
If you need medical service, it'll take an ambulance longer to get to you because of the traffic and when you get to the hospitals, you'll have to wait longer in some cases which also sucks.
When I lived in the suburbs, the first thing I noticed was how healthy older people looked. They were in their 70's and walking upright and moving around. In NYC, they're hunched over looking like walking corpse. I think there's too much toxins to live here too long so I don't plan on growing old here. It's not a good environment to raise a family. Most of my friends are married with children, where as New Yorkers are talking about rent, buying fondue and spreading herpes.

I'm not sure why, but the fruits and veggies make me gag as if there's more pesticides or something, where I had no problems in the burbs. The milk also expires faster here for some reason, like before the expiration dates. I can only eat organic stuff here.
- I agree, I believe they ship lesser quality goods to NYC b/c most people make fast decisions shopping

In the suburbs, if I wanted to go to the movies and I get in my car and drive with easy parking. In NYC, you gotta take the crowded subways with a bunch of strangers standing diagnally, and parking is also a bitch here.
