In a lot of ways its the next big disease that we've been preparing for. Fairly contagious, high mortality even with modern medical care, long incubation time. If it gets into major transportation routes, goes global, we might have some big problems. Nothing to scoff at, though its nothing to bother putting in the news at the moment. Public health agencies monitor this shit, try to keep em contained and study them. Why the fuck do I need to hear about it aside from newsertainment? Keep in mind that we have well-established yet preventable/controllable diseases that kill millions in these same countries, sleeping sickness / malaria / childhood diarrhea / polio etc., giving little things like Ebola press time is kind of an injustice.
Honestly the more interesting side of the Ebola story is how these West Africans prefer to go to the witch doctor for treatment and run away from hospitals... they're seeing a resurgence of polio due to vaccine fears, thinking that UN is out to sterilize them and such.

Just read that there are several hundred personnel to be deployed. A 100mil. Dollar plan.
They say the US is at no big risk (LA Times reporter from White House spokes person)

Ebola has killed fewer than 5,000 people... ever.
Measles (which some folks refuse to vaccinate kids for) killed 122,000 in 2012 alone. From some scientist dude on twatter.
- Uh, the death toll this year is nearing 1,000.ohhhhhsnap
- didn't know that about measles though. go on...ohhhhhsnap

Al Qaeda should be all over this, shipping it to the West.
I'm not saying I support terrorism, but we'd be better off with a few billion fewer people.
- i know a few people who are about to go on vacation who would benefit from it.ohhhhhsnap

It is scary, indeed. We are flying to Maui in two weeks for vacation, and it's the first time I have felt sort of sketchy about traveling on a plane. The fact that you have it for 21 to 23 days before showing symptoms and becoming contagious is worrisome.
I highly suggest reading godlikeproductions.com, where you will find several good threads about Ebola.

Shizz bad luck, my flight got cancelled, tomorrow I'm doing sn even longer trip thus increasing my ebolacontagion ratio by 2.5,
