Mamiya 7 w/ 80mm
or
Plaubel Makina 6x7
Taking into consideration, in order:
Image quality
Usability
Portability
Durability
Longevity / repairability- Mamiya is a big boi.
Get this: https://www.youtube.…tank02 - I have the Plaubel Makina, its a beautiful rangefinder. It gets a lot of looks. It def has a learning curve, but totally worth getting if you have found one.jmckinno
- Get that Fuji one, cheaper and 6x9 format ;)tank02
- Image quality on both is amazing, usability on PM takes some getting used to, PM is more portable and durable, PM has better battery lifejmckinno
- ^ crazy, was just about to recommend the gw690 instead. But check the Fuji's 90mm look to make sure it fits your IQ taste.spl33nidoru
- It's a bit of a strange camera, but that 6x9 is well impressive.tank02
- I don’t want 2:3 ratio. My composition is best when I shoot in the ratio that I present. 4x5 or 6x7 is most pleasing.nb
- I have a GW670 actually. It is slightly less impressive than the Mamiya 7 (image quality)nb
- Plaubel is so optically perfect it looks digital to me. Also it's fragile, if its electronics break (which they are known to do), is an expensive brick.inteliboy
- Mamiya is a big boi.

For What It's Worth series
Palabora Mine - 4.1 million tonnes of copper- Also this:

- This thing with the copper egg looks like a Hypnosis album cover from the 70s.CyBrainX
- It's also got some Prisoner vibes if The Village got a much higher budget for security.CyBrainX

- Yeah I carry one of these. Bought it off a farmer for $20, probably 15 years ago. It’s starting to dienb

Blue Moon camera just got a huge shipment of Portra. Reserved for in store and phone orders.
It’s probably just shipping woes. Logistics are still ducked globally. Expect film to thrive!!

Is there something going on with Kodak stocks that I'm not aware of?
I tried to order a couple of rolls each of Etkar 100 and Portra 160 from two of the big camera shops here in Munich. Out of stock in both places, and not expected back in stock for another 3 to 6 *months* in both cases.
Wtf?
- *EktarContinuity
- Don't quote me on this because I could be wrong, but the group that bought them out after their bankruptcy in the early aughts..garbage
- ..Sino Promise. They bought the chemistry and paper rights and whatnot, not the film rights. But they announced last year that there might be a slowdown.garbage
- https://petapixel.co…garbage
- Which probably triggered a slowdown in film production. It's so absurdly high-priced that I can't think of a reasonable explanation to keep shooting film.garbage
- I personally have maybe 40 rolls of shot and undeveloped film, and loads of unshot stored Ektar and Portra, lots of Ilford stock.garbage
- I wish I'd done the same, because wow ... 3-6 months wait time? Forget it.Continuity
- It's really just not worth it anymore unless you're shooting large format or just really enjoy dark room time (who does?).garbage
- So good news on the small manufacturer front, though:
https://www.amateurp…Continuity - One of my old professors, who was a film purist, once quipped "You know film is actually dead when Ilford makes a disposable camera".garbage
- Ha!Continuity
- Depending on your digital setup, I can point you towards either in-camera or LR Ektar results. Ol' Ek was my fave back in the day.garbage
- Interestingly, I've been using Jamie Windsor's LR film emulation presets, and they're very good. In-camera will be interesting for me when IContinuity
- ... finally get that Canon R + FD lens adapter I've been wanting, probably in Q1.Continuity
- Love Ek, too, but my soft spot is for Portra 160. Such a delightful stock.Continuity
- Having said that, I still have two rolls of Portra 400 that need to be shot. I've never used it before, so I'll be curious to see the results.Continuity
- There is still stock in NYC so maybe this is more of a shipping logistics problem in Germany?nb
- Oh, Portra 400 5-packs are back ordered, but 160 is availablenb
- Anyway, this happened earlier during the pandemic, there was a huge back order, so I ordered a bunch and it eventually came. 6 months is not as long it seemsnb
- PhanLo2
- I've been eyeing this one for a while.garbage
- Ah nice!PhanLo
- I found a used one for cheap but passed. I actually passed on the 7artisans he mentioned here and got the equivalent Meike lens.garbage
- It's ok if you know what you're doing manually, but I've kind of fallen for Fuji X glass. Cheers on the channel, never seen it before.garbage
- Yeah, I hadn't seen it either, subscribed too :-)PhanLo

- I've seen this guy's stuff before, and I will freely admit I can't watch them because nobody deserves to be so happy.garbage
- Yeah I'm salty, but this dude has never had a bad day in his life. He doesn't have to lord it over us normal folk.garbage
- hah. i always think he looks like he's on the verge of a mental breakdown. his vids can be hit or miss but thought this was really impressive.kingsteven
- I watched this early today, good stuff.utopian
- I'll give it a go. I think the "insanely happy to the verge of a mental breakdown" goes to styropyro, that kid that does the lasers.garbage
- https://www.youtube.…garbage
- He's happy as hell, but you're thankful because otherwise he'd be using his powers for evil.garbage
- Amazing the amount of clarity he got through that old lens and massive diy setup. Good stuff!aliastime
- This is why I stick around this place. Thanks Steve!toemaas

- Desperate last gasp to keep selling filmstocks to the Urban Outfitter crowd. Film is dead yo.garbage
- If absolute and total uselessness becomes a trend, I have a Minox B with full accessories, original paperwork and case to sell to some moron kid.garbage
- lol, just saw that Holga remakes are selling for up to $70. I remember getting a lot of them off ebay for pennies..garbage
- ..and we would microwave them to warp the lenses, and then throw them away when we were done.garbage
- call these 20 year olds wearing flares and 90's grunge jumpers = a whole new market to sell lomography to.shapesalad
- *allshapesalad
- For sure. I still have my actual soviet LCA from when I was young. And a crate of old, unsold Polaroid cameras.garbage
- Gonna sound very "get off my lawn", but $20 for 8 shots is fucking stupid. I shot Polaroids because they were the easiest thing to steal at Ritz Camera.garbage
